The first thing you need to do is get her into an e collar
How to make an e collar
You'll probably have more success with the collar with 2 people until you get used to it, and she stops fighting so hard. Have the second person hold the glider down with thumbs along the spine, and you'll kind of need to (GENTLY) pull her head toward you so she doesn't scrunch her neck to get the collar wrapped around-then tape. It can take a few tries to get it straight. If you can just get it on, and let her fight it out (a blanket on the floor works), she should be calmer later to reposition it if it doesn't come off.

This will help with preventing her from chewing on her sore spot right now. Can you please let us know where you are located so that we can try and locate a vet for you.
Also, if you can quickly register, this will give you quicker and more access to our forums.

You should take a moment to register and also tell us where you are located. We may be able to help you better to find a vet that way.

Do you have a 24 hour emergency service anywhere in your area? Your glider is in serious need of medical attention. If what is going on doesn't get treated asap, she can become seriously worse. I know it's difficult late at night, but try and see if there is one.
Other than the e collar, make sure that she is getting plenty of fluids, and keep her WARM. If you have any topical ointment (neosporin - without the pain reliever) you can apply some to the area. Gently wipe the area clean with a warm wash cloth with just a little mild detergent.
1. E collar
2. Keep her WARM
3. Keep her hydrated - offer plenty of liquids
4. Clean area and apply neosporin without pain reliever

Sending your little one lots of hugs and prayers...

Is there anything that your baby could have gotten into that caused the redness? It could be an irritation from something like that.

Have you used any new soaps or cleaners around or in the cage or cage accessories or pouches? Do you use any sort of heat source or anything that could have caused some sort of burn? (I would think that would more effect the feet...but just looking for any source that may have caused this)

Just to make it clear where it is, its under her left arm pit,
shes not bleeding or anything than god, i already checked her and she doesn't have anything apparent except for lack of hair. I already tried the doctor but [censored] vets here in Taiwan ain't worth the title(Most), so not much i can do. Ill take her tomorrow morning to see the vet. For the meanwhile ill have to use the collar.

She stopped doing it a while ago maybe 1 or 2 hours now, shes sleeping well thank god >.< this is going to be a veeeery long night i guess since ill have her under surveillance.

Thank you all for your help. Ill try to keep you informed on what is going on right after i get her checked by the vet >.<

EDIT: BTW thanks a lot for the sounds, but i cant find the one shes making. ill ask a friend for a mic and record it, if she makes that sound tomorrow ill record it and send it.

Since i couldn't get anything to keep her hot, im using those winter heat packs that you just expose to air and thats it. they get pretty hot so i wrap them in several layers of towel. this makes it warm only. Her cage since shes only 6-8 weeks old is a large plastic fish tank with no edges whatsoever so i have no idea what might have caused it. maybe an Ant? my house has a lot of them but the cage is in a safe place so i cant see any way an ant might have gotten there but its still the most likely culprit.

It sounds like she is overgrooming that area. Your doing the right thing by getting her in an e collar to keep her from grooming there further.
Does she have a cage mate? If so, I would separate them until you have her checked, otherwise her cagemate will try and groom that area as well.
Is there a chance she could have gotten injured? Is the area just red with no broken skin?
Check her cage and her toys to make sure there are not sharp areas that could have caused injury.
Possibly a bug bite?
Sending lots of hugs and prayers. Please keep us posted

I'm going to move this to Health and Hygiene....

Sorry, you answered my questions before I got to post... grin
I would be very careful with the heat packs...
Do you have her in a sleeping pouch? If you have one that is of thick fleece this should be warm enough.
Is she a 'bra' baby...if so you could tuck her inside your bra to help keep her warm.

I was worried about the heat packs so i wrap them a lot just to allow her to stay warm. What my girlfriend did was make a hanging bag out of half of a plastic water bottle then we wrapped it in a sock then stuffed it with fleece. The heat pack is under it so the heat is transfered to the cage not directly to her. I don't use a bra cuz im a man but i might start if it helps her (Just kidding) I made her a bag so i can carry her anywhere, and the bag holds tight to my body so it stays at a pretty decent temp. ts also ventilated and stuffed with fleece ( hardened with hard plastic walls to avoid accidental squishing)

I'm impressed with your kindness and concern for your little one....It sounds like your doing a remarkable job!
Were you able to get to the 'sounds' links?

Yeah thanks a lot, i already heard them all but none is similar to the one she was making . It did sound like hissing and crabbing at the same time but it wasn't so loud, She crabbs WAY louder than what she was doing.

Linda, he said it didn't sound like that-and mostly a cloacal mutilator is the one that makes the SM noise-a variety of others can go with other body areas though to indicate pain. I used to describe Riker's before the sound file as like a crab-hissssss - it was the closest I could come.

Just keep her from doing any damage-has she broken the skin? If so, you'll need an oral antibiotic, not that it wouldn't be a good precaution anyway.

The vet, if he can understand, will need to run urinalysis and fecal float/fecal direct smear to look for bacteria/parasites/white blood cells (which would indicate infection). It won't always show depending on what's going on, though. In this case, and due to location, I would also have them check for external parasites like mites, and fungus, and anything that could indicate a bite.

If you can keep her in your shirt, that's one of the best ways to keep her warm-sharing your body heat. Just make sure her nose doesn't turn blue in the collar, and that when in it, you'll need to offer her lickable foods and drinks on a spoon, by syringe (no needle), or from a bird feeder with a trough. Make sure she's staying hydrated.

6 weeks is VERY young to be away from mom and dad...it's not recommended joeys leave the parents until between 8 and 12 weeks Out Of Pouch, because a lot of what they do is learned behavior instead of instinctive. She may not be quite able to regulate her own body temperature well by herself for another couple weeks, and have trouble with solid foods due to her age.

Keep us updated.

To test hydration, you want to gently pinch the skin at the base of the neck over the shoulder blades-if it stays up, or 'tented', or goes down slowly, she needs fluids.

What are you feeding her?

It may be, then. It may not be exactly like the file, as gliders have slightly different voices and intensities due to pain level. Has she gone after the cloacal area or the base of her tail at ALL?

Edit: the SM noise does not sound like regular crabbing-it's much harder to describe but very distinct from their other sounds.

I know. MOSTLY the sound is with cloaca or base of tail, but not always. And on rare occasion, they don't make the sound even then. I do want to know, if he IS hearing it, if the glider may be going after more than one area-and the most visible is what was noticed first.

Could it be a hot spot she was lying on in the tank, that it is actually more of a burn? It looks like a burn to me, and with those packs (they do get really hot) and her being so young. Hoping you were able to get to a good vet to get some help. Prayers going out for this little one.

I didn't even see the pic-was going by description-OMG she is young!! Look at the fur and neck. It might be, but this pic is before they started using heat to help. Unless there's a heat rock or other heat source, it's something else. Suz' Mareki mutilated her patagium repeatedly. This could just be from her chewing on it. worried

I thought they were using the heat from the beginning, since she is so young and in a tank. The combination can make it very hot in spots.

Maybe she can clarify, were you using the heat things before this happened???

Look at the pic, her back leg even looks pretty red. I may be wrong but lying directly on the heat to keep warm may be the problem. (Of course, if it is that, it was the beginning, but now she is going after it.) Whatever it is, hope she will be ok.

Mary, I see the pic in the first post, and he mentions a cage-what are you seeing that I'm not? I don't see the back leg in the first one.

She is using a large, plastic fish tank for her cage, with those heat packs. And it is on the right hand side of the pic, you can see one of her back legs (her 'knee' so to speak) and you can see the skin there and it is red, also. At least looks it in the pic to me.

And her right leg looks to have little sore on it, as well.
