Karen has been telling me about a new e-collar she has. She used them when she had not one, but TWO gliders in e-collars at the same time. It is more along the lines of a satellite collar, but has snaps for closing it, rather than tape. It is sooooo simple to put on. She brought some to the Retreat, and I put one on Biscuit, took it off and let someone else try. I didn't even have to hold him.
Because of the way the snaps are lined up, it can be sized up for our fluffy gliders, or down for the petite gliders. I am attaching some pictures of it actually in use, by Jackie Chan.
This collar has been used many times by suggie owners, with no problems.
You can get one from Karen at kmilas@gmail.com for $7.

Does she makes these or are they the ones that the vets use for small birds and such? I know Jill purchased one like that off of her vet. I definately have to get me one of these to have on hand!

They are the ones the vets use for birds. You still need to put the moleskin on it, around the edge that goes on the glider. There is a bit of padding on there already, but it is fragile, and doesn't last very long.
The $7 does include shipping. I've asked for 5 for my house. I've tried putting other e-collars on, and it's hard. Even the foam one, which is fairly simple, is much harder to put on than this one. In an emergency, I want quick and easy.

I just emailed her to find out about getting some. Those look much sturdier than the ones I made from scratch...I don't have the best craftmanship, I guess you could say! And if you need an ecollar, you definitely want it to be sturdy!

OMG - that little glider is soooooo cute!!!

grin

Even though they are technically bird collars, you also have to cut them down to size as well as add the moleskin.

LOVE 'EM - USE 'EM

I KNEW there was SOMETHING I was forgetting to mention about the gathering....you just HAD to beat me to it didnt you Shawna??

I LOVE these things...talk about easy as pie to use. If Shawna can use one with tears in her eyes and on a healthy glider, than I am sure anyone can use one!! roflmao

I am going to be sure to get several, not only for here at home, but also for at the store. They are definitely better and easier than ANY other ecollar I have seen around.

Karen, you ARE still making mine right?? dunno

Yep, I have been using these with Spencer. The only thing I did different was add moleskin around the outer edge as it seemed kind of "rough" in places as well as moleskin under the molefoam around the neck to keep it from twisting but those are easy modifications to make when you get your collars if you want!! Easy, easy collar..............def. the way to go!

I only cried a little, LOL! It was easy to do, even though while I was doing it I was thinking of Tuck being so flipping miserable in his, and how would it be if Biscuit had to really do it.
But, I would use it if I had to, and if I need to I want something I can actually get on one.

Peggy I did not forget your collars. AS soon as I get a fresh supply in today or tomorrow you are first on the list.My mind has not turned to mush yet.
When I had two gliders at the same time in a collar I found these to be the best to use. Nice thing is they can still drink and eat out of a regular crmem bruele bowl. Which most of use have on hand. The other collars you do have to get tube feeders so they can eat.
Both my boys had an easier time getting around their hospital cages with this collar on. Plus you can take it off to clean and put it back on without stressing the glider.I've gotten so good I can do these one handed now.
seems my boys were happer (as happy as you can be in a collar) when I used these.
if you want to buy one my paypal email is kmilas@gmail.com

I have the same type of collar that I got from my vet. They are the satellite collars, big and wide! However they are really nice and very easy to use. Quick to get on and off. I have mine pictured with my male in it from his neuter in a neuter thread I did.

Where can we get those? I know someone that has one. Maybe the vet will have those today (pretty sure that is where she got it.) I will definitely check. They make those for dogs, too.

No Amanda, there is a little bit of padding. That's the same one i had to use on Zane a few weeks ago after his neuter.

Melissa - That's the one Dr. Bauers gave me, but he instructed me to trim it down to size, not leave it at it's size cause it'd be too big. I trimmed RIGHT DOWN to the snaps!

(Oh, and I paid $10 for mine, too! Dangit.)

When you purchase them from Karen, they will come already cut down and with the moleskin added. In the first pictures with that precious Jackie Chan, the mole skin is not there because it was an "emergency on the fly" thing we had to do at the vet since he was able to get out of 4 other collars after coming out of surgery. Once this one was tight enough, Jackie was not able to get out of it even with his unusual upper body strength.

I wish Karen would have had them pre-Zane-neuter! Lol Poor Zane..

It took me a couple of tries to figure out which set of buttons to use. The first two times I did it, he wiggled right out. The 2nd time, his nose started turning purple..the fourth time...PERFECTO!

Did they put it on for you before you picked him up? They told me that I wouldn't even NEED it! But if I did, for some strange reason, that it'd have to be trimmed...

Zane ended up being in his for a little over a week.. and when the collar came off, he had some sores around his neck. frown But I think that is to be expected.

Zane is doing WONDERFUL now! We picked him up on Tuesday. We were so nervous about putting him back with his family, especially since Zoeys new joey came OOP while he was away. But Zoey came out to greet him with open arms and then they went into the pouch and went to sleep! All is well.

With this collar my boys didn't have any sores at all. A little fur was missing but no sores. The collar comes too big so I cut it down and add lots of padding around the neck. I have worked a discount price from a company that sells them. You can either get them from your vet probably for about $10-15ea or you can get them from me. From me I cut them to size and add the padding. The comapny tht makes them does not sell to the public but I have found a place on line that will give them to me for a discount since I am buying them through our non-profit TGI. I am selling them to you guys at my cost. I just want to make sure everyone out there has some kind of e-collar handy.

I think that's great of you. smile I wish it would have been happening beforehand!

When I put the collar on Zane, it was just with the padding the collar came with. He went to live with Auntie Suz (SugargliderSuz) until he was healed, and the collar was on so well, she didn't want to risk taking it off for any amount of time, so she just left it. Which is absolutely fine with me. As long as he didn't eat at himself anymore.

Jill, I told the vet, when we dropped Eddie off, that to only put an e collar on if needed. They told me that as soon as he came out of the anesthesia, he went for the site so they put one on just to be safe because I told them do not put any glue. I gave them specific instructions before leaving Eddie and they were very cooperative in following my instructions
