I just saw a post somewhere else online for 100% leu het joeys...but mom is a BB and dad is a leu. Is this math correct?

A 100% leu het is produced by a leu and a normal, so yes, that would be correct Here's a basic break down of the het percentages: Leu X Leu = Leu Leu x 100% Het = 1/2 Leus, 1/2 100% Hets Leu x Normal = 100% hets 100% Het x 100% Het = 1/4 Normal, 1/2 66% Leu Hets, 1/4 Leus 100% Het x Normal/66% Het/50% Het, etc = 50% Hets Once a low grade het (66%, 50%, etc.) proves out, it becomes a 100% het. The percentage is in relation to the probability that the glider will care the gene. So, 100% hets have the leucistic gene, 50% hets have a 50/50 chance of having the gene.

Suggies4you is Terri's petting zoo. But yes a leu and another glider grey, wf, leu het ect will produce a 100% leu het.

Lol, are you out to find any error I make Jenny? Yes, you are correct. I made an error... but I was kind of scurrying along when I was typing that because I was in the middle of introducing some of my males together... They needed my full attention But they spent the whole night together and are all in 1 piece still, lol.

Question for Bubbles8i8 and Leyna: Do you mean that the 100% x 100% babies will ALL be 66% and none will be leucistic? Or will 1/4 be leucistic and the rest will be 66%?
Thanks as I'm still learning! Mary

1/4 of the babies from a 100% x 100% pair will be leucistic. The rest will be gray. Out of the gray babies 66% will carry the leu gene

The 66% actually refers to the gliders chance of having the leu gene. That means 2 out of 3 babies will have the gene. The joeys that do have the gene, once proven out, would then be considered 100% hets... I personally prefer 50% hets over 66% hets. 50% hets are outbred 1 generation for the leu lines, to they are great for outbreeding. Also, the leu gene has been shown to pass on very well. I know of a breeder that has produced a leu from a 25% het and a 50% het pair. I also know of breeder that's proved out joeys that would have about a 16% chance of carrying the gene...

Thanks so much. I'm new to this and bought a breeding pair of WFB's so have been trying to learn the genetics so I can place my two baby girls OOP 2-2-08 in the right home. Any further advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Mary
