Sorry I haven't kept up on where Mimzy's wound is. But my first thought is to wrap it in gauze then cover it with medical tape. Is it someplace where you can do that? (like not over her shoulder?)

I'm sorry, Jenna. I don't know. Jack's scar site reopened once - but it was because of food fights with Boogie. Once I started feeding them separately, it has healed up.
So you think she was scratching it, or trying to SM?

Is it maybe possible to wrap gauze and tape or something around his middle kind of like a wide belt to help prevent him from his foot reaching his shoulder? I know it sound kind of funny but if he cant bend in the middle he may not be able to reach his foot to his shoulder?
I don't really know at his point its trial and error.

You need to wrap her hind feet in vet-wrap tape so that she can't scratch at her wound. She will NOT like it but you really don't have any choice right now. If she starts gnawing on the bandages, you will also need to put her in an e-collar to prevent her from that, too I know it's hard to watch them struggle with the bandages and collar but it's for her own good at this point. Please keep us posted

It sounds like from her second post she doesn't have an ecollar. So I think bandaging up the feet might not be a good idea if there's no ecollar. Is there anyway you can make one today? I am sorry you are having this problem with Mimzy! I know how worried you must be!

I believe you can get it at any pharmacy. Just ask the pharmacist if you can't find it. I got mine at Walgreens.

If you have a tractor supply near you, they sell it - anyplace that sells animal supplies - MIGHT be able to get it at a pharmacy (it's called co-ban).

You can always use a plastic soda bottle for the plastic part of the e-collar and duct tape instead of moleskin, to soften the edges so they don't cut her. Try Walmart, K-Mart, Rural King and your local pharmacies for the vet wrap tape. If you can get an e-collar made and on her, then you can use a self adhesive type of gauze to put on her feet. I'm not sure what it's called but you can get it at Walmart in the health and beauty section. It's not sticky like tape. It sticks to itself and holds it's shape. If you had a cut on your arm, you would use it to hold the bandage in place, without having to use tape. You would wrap it around your arm and simply press it onto itself to get it to stay. I wish I could describe it better for you. :-(

I'm soo sooo stressed out.. it's open again. And the only vets around here are useless and I'm not kidding. One of them wanted to remove half the skin on her back to pull it back together. And that was before. Please pray Judie is there tomorrow. I'm so going to make her use the ecollar and make a vest out of it. It's the only way to keep it on her that I can figure. I just can't get it to stay. and i am bringing the tape with the tape her feet up too. Not together. I figure I can just tape the feet part and she won't be able to do anything to the wound. God I can't wait till morning. I'm going insane here.

Oh Jenna, I wish I had something to say that could help. You may have to just wrap her fleece like a burrito and hold her close to your body until you can get her in to see Judy. Anna

I'm sorry that this is happening....I wished there was something that we can do to help. Have you been able to make an e collar? You can try and roll up a piece of fleece thick enough to where you can put it around her neck to keep her from scratching at her wound. Sending you and your baby lots of prayers.

Jenna, I want you to read this very carefully. I have JUST gone through this with Minka and a HUGE wound on her shoulder. What will probably be the best until you can get her to the vet in the morning is called "No-Stick Flex-Wrap". Like Suggiemom said, it's in the First Aid section of any drug store or K-mart, etc. You start with putting the end between her shoulders & wrap it once around her neck (watch her nose for color change: pink is just right, blue is too tight---don't be fooled if her nose turns purple from stress). Then on the second time around, go BEHIND her arm where the shoulder wound is and around her chest. Check the nose again. The third time around, go in FRONT of the arm with the wound. Check the nose. If a fourth wrap-around is necessary to finish covering the wound, go BEHIND the arm again. Once you get the Flex-Wrap in place, if you have some medical tape to cover it...that will help. I don't recommend using duct tape over the wound area itself; it needs to be able to get air. Maybe a small piece to keep the end of your wrapping attached to her, but NOT over the wound. Odds are that the healing process is itching Mimzy badly...she keeps scratching, then it hurts, so she scratches more. I'm going to send this on its way & get you a couple pics of Minka's wound & how I had her bandaged up.

It's pretty fuzzy, but here's a link to the picture of Minka's wound. I had to put a MODIFIED e-collar on her because she was over-grooming that shoulder to the point where it was WIDE OPEN. http://s192.photobucket.com/albums/z201/lchith/Mid%20TN%20Gathering/?action=view¤t=HPIM0671.jpg The vets REFUSED to stitch it because they said there was signs of healing within the wound...they called it "granular tissue"...and it would have required more destruction to even THINK about sewing it shut. If you can get the Flex-Wrap to work, I think that'll help you til the morning. I'll be online for awhile if you need me.

Jenna, I'm glad you were able to get her wrapped up so she can't scratch at the wound anymore. I know it's a huge relief to you!

minkasamom, that is an EXCELLENT idea of how to put on an e-collar by yourself! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope I never need to do this at all, let alone by myself, but it sure is nice to have this information! Jenna, I am so happy for you! And I bet your vet will not only be proud of you but will use your vest idea in the future for their other patients! Mimzy looks great, albeit a bit miffed. LOL! The main thing is, she's safe. Tell hubby, if anything he can wear gloves or use oven pads/mitts. They do bite hard (and I'm going to post pics on here soon as proof) but I've been bitten by worse! LOL!
