Mating wound, no, it never happened to any of my gliders, but I do have e-collars made by Xfilefan at hand and I could have helped you put one on Mimzy and showed you how to feed her, etc.

Yes, I would imagine it has been a long week...

sorry, wasn't thinking clearly..
She's put back together.
Pray she stays that way. She has an ecollar on and a vest like wrap to keep her from getting her hands and feet at the wound.
It's like 3 times the size it started out.
I'm exhausted... and she's on pain meds and sedatives.
Where going to both go to our rooms and rest. Right Mimzy..Mimzy.. hey.. I think she beat me to it. lol
Thanks everyone. We we are healing again. Thank God!

So did they do stitches? I truly hope not, but...the vet knows best I guess. I'd imagine they had quite the laugh at having 15 pounds of bandages on a 3-ounce glider! We do what we gotta do to keep them from hurting themselves.

I know the pain meds will help. Her appetite will be VERY LOW from the meds, so you may have to resort to force-feeding her. Just make sure she stays hydrated.

I'll check online tonight.

ok.. she ate some last night which I am so so glad to see.
but this morning I found her clinging to the side of her pouch. Not in it. I have a bunch of fleece on the bottom of the cage but she wasn't on that either.
Does someone have any idea what I can make that she could get into to stay warm? You know.. with her ecollar on.. because that is so not coming off for a while. But I want her to be warm.. Any ideas? I don't mean during the day, she will be on me during the day I mean when she is cold at night..?

If she won't sleep in her pouch, do you have a hammock for her? Maybe you could check on her right as she's going to sleep and place the fleece on or around her to keep her warm. It's just a thought, I'm no expert but it would probably keep her warmer than her not sleeping in the pouch or w/o fleece. HTH.
Good luck.

OK, let me try this again...I had a post about 95% done, then my boss walked in & I had to erase everything! tant

When SugMom2b referred to a "hammock", you can make one with 2 plastic embroidery hoops ($1.39 each @ Wal-Mart) & a piece of fleece about 8" wide x 12" long. Put a hoop at either end of the fleece, then take a 1/2" strip of fleece & tie the hoops to the top of your cage. (I think there's a picture of what I mean in my photobucket album...go to www.photobucket.com & search for "Minkasmom")

Another idea I had off the top of my head (if you're a crafty sewing type person) is to make a hard-bottomed pouch. Take 2 squares of fleece 8" x 8" & a piece of plastic canvas about 7-1/2" x 7-1/2". Put the plastic canvas between the 2 pieces of fleece, sew it all together. Then take another piece of fleece about 8" wide by (???) inches long...pin it all the way around the outside of the square & sew up the side (where the beginning and end will meet). Put a loop (ribbon or fleece) in each corner to hang from the cage. Add a few blankets about 2" x 2" for her to snuggle into.

I'm POSITIVE that a "traditional pouch" just isn't comfortable for her with that e-collar on. Think about the world from HER perspective: every time she tries to climb down into her pouch, that e-collar "catches" & makes her stop. She's probably frustrated as all get-out. And her not sleeping is NOT GOOD...rest is the 2nd most important thing she needs, nourishment being #1.

When Minka spent her 3 weeks in an e-collar, I made sure the temp in the "glider-torium" was at least 78-80 degrees also. (space heaters are the BOMB DIGGITY!)

Hope that one of these 2 ideas will help. hug2

Thanks Jen...

I'm just so sad right now. She was just a baby really. Just over a year.

I know it's kind.. but seeing Godspeed hurts.. I want her here.. I know.. selfish... upset

Jenna,

I am so sorry to hear that little Mimzi passed over the rainbow bridge. It is so hard to lose our little ones.

May your memories of your time together comfort you.

Sincerest Condolences,
