Need suggestions on substite sleeping arrangements. Our lil gals came with a black index card box made into a nest box. They have several sleeping pouches and a coconut, and a house but if the nest box isn't in the cage, they are most likely to be found sleeping in their wheel. Have used the coconut a little, but never a pouch. Suggestions for an alternate they might enjoy.

You can always use a shoebox lined with soft material or you could build a wooden box and give them nesting materials

Maybe what you can do is lie their pouch IN the box for a week or two.. until the get used to sleeping on it, and then slowly move it and take out the box. They just may prefer to sleep in a lil nesting box, in which case I would buy them a nicer nesting box and let them sleep where they are comfiest! Good Luck!

Check out Srlb's site, she mades wooden nestboxes that are just awesome...even personalizes them to whatever you want. Easy to clean, made excellent...you cannot go wrong ...they even come with their own custom "bedding".

Thanks Karin, sent her an email. I saw her site before, but was confused. I thought wood was a potential problem. I've looked at your goodies too. Just not sure what I can do to convince these two that there are more comfy places. Fortunately, as soon as I am up, they are in a sissy pouch for the majority of their sleeping time.

I know what you mean about the wood...I was leary at first. But the way Peggy finishes them, they are not a problem. How funny....they like the sissy in the day, you would think they wouldn't mind a pouch at nighttime...then again, we are talking furbutts, .

Karin...I just read your post it about safe sleeping. Probably read it before, but I see you mention Chin Houses. Don't really know what they are, but going to go investigate. My biggest problem with the index box is how it hooks onto the cage with the drape hooks. Maybe someone knows a safer way to attach them. I must admit, when they are in the nest box, it is really easy to transfer them to the sissy.

I got a rescue that originated from Mike McGrath, she too had her little black index card box. That is what he uses for sleeping areas... I used the index card box to get her to bond to me and then I moved her into pouches. She does fine now.

CRAZYHATLADY....your hats are AWESOME! I saw some of your creations at the SGGA, o wow!!!
Ok, chin houses can be purchased at any pet type store. They are plastic houses (quite large), that are used for chinchilla baths. Alot of people use them as nestboxes. I do not though, so not real sure how they attach them to the cages, but it can be done!

You can attach them to a cage if you snip the wires off some of the cage. It is easier if you have a homemade cage, but it can be done if you take your cage to any metal shop. Then they basically just latch into place on the cage. It is more like an attachment or "addition" to the cage.
You can also put them inside the cage, but b/c of their size, it will take up a lot more room than you'd probably want it to.
Good Luck!

Problem solved. Monster was my secret buddy, she sent me a nosey nursery that has a new modification so that it can hang from the top of the cage. I got the first one! The lil gals love it. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
Karin, glad you enjoyed the hats. Hopefully I can make it to Ohio with a trunk of hats for everyone to play with.
