Gizmo won't go into his bonding pouch I always find him in his larger pouch that won't fit inside my shirt well. Is it okay to gently grab him with the bonding pouch or would this probably scare him.

I always used my girls' bonding pouches as their cage pouches. No transfer necessary. But in answer to your question: It won't hurt Gizmo, but it will undoubtedly upset him. Although ... it always upset me more when I tried to grab Calliope early on. I could never actually hang onto her. I was afraid of hurting her, never gripped her tightly enough, and she always escaped. I would try again, with the same result, so eventually I quit trying. I totally failed at grabbing. But you might try to hang the bonding pouch in the cage as the sleeping pouch, and that way you won't have to worry. (P.S:) Really, though, if Gizmo crabs and is upset, he'll get over it. As long as you don't squeeze him to death, he'll be OK.

Yes, just use the bonding pouch as their "sleeping" pouches so you don't have to transfer him. This worked great with one of my skittish gliders when I first got him. It also helped when he learned he'd always get a mealie whenever I was going to mess with his pouch. Grabbing usually tends to upset, or at least tick off, gliders.

Well in the bottom of the cage I have a little clay pot with fleece rags in it. When I take out the teh sleeping pouch he hides in there. Should I remove the pot so teh bonding pouch is the only safe haven.

It may seem harsh, but yes, I suggest you do that. If the bonding pouch is snuggly soft, and he can feel safe in there, then that's your best bet. He sounds like a very smart glider - knowing that he'll have to deal with you if he goes into his bonding pouch.

Yes, take out the pot. I had to take out the tunnels when I was bonding with mine at first, so they wouldn't sleep in the tunnel, they'd sleep in the pouch. dont' worry, he'll settle down eventually

Thanks for all the help, I've learned he likes to run around my room so I'm trying to let him do that without chasing him, and then I'm going to try getting him to come to me when I have treats.

You too? That was and still is Calliope's favorite thing. I don't know why to this day, but she wants nothing more than to run around my room. In the beginning, it was nigh on impossible to get her back into her pouch, but then it became easier and easier. So good luck to you! If he loves your room at least he's getting a lot of your smell.

Jay & Silent Bob have their bonding pouch as their sleeping pouch also. These pouches I have, you can unclip the strap and hang it in the cage so its perfect for them. These 2 guys do NOT like being messed with in their pouches (OMG do they crab!!), so once I switched them out and put the bonding ones in, they don't get bothered by me zipping it up and taking it out.

I posted something like this a while back and the best advice I got was to slowly flip the pouch inside out until he HAS to go into the pouch you want him in. Works for me... and I have a pair and a trio. They have never crabbed during it either.

Just a word of caution, when using a bonding pouch as a cage pouch ALWAYS be sure to unzip the pouch after you put it in the cage. I've heard a couple of not-so-happy stories when the pouches didn't get left open in the cage - so the gliders couldn't get out.

I either roll Bella out, or if the cage pouch is large enough, I will take my fleece square from the bonding pouch and use it to reach into the cage pouch and cup around her and take her out. She doesn't even really seem to notice until that moment when she's between pouches and looks up at me like "what are we doing"?

Puting the bonding pouch in as his sleeping pouch is working. I think he is pouch protective. If i put my hand in he lunges at me and he crabs if I peek inside the pouch. If I leave the cage open he climbs out and runs around my room, but won't let me touch him yet.

How long have you had him? He could just be getting scared when you look at him in there or put your hand in the pouch. Awww. I wish I could use my bonding pouch as a cage pouch but I'm too afraid to risk sacrificing it. My kids chew through double layered pouches to sleep between the pieces so I had to "train" them in a way. Now, if I hold the pouch up to them and say "in" they go inside. Of course, they always expect a treat after they go in because that's how I taught them. :S

If I leave the cage open he climbs out and runs around my room, but won't let me touch him yet. Bella isn't big on being held either - the other night I got her up a little early for tent time b/c I was tired and didn't want to stay up late. I took her pouch in the tent with me, reached in with my fleece square, and pulled her out to sit in my hand. Then I just started petting her from the top of her head down her back. She was awake, but still sleepy, and she sat there for about 10 minutes and just let me pet her - it was awesome. Every so often she would look up at me almost like "you're petting me... and I like it..." Then she got up, stretched, and took off playing as usual! Just keep working with him - make him come to you and take a treat from you - he'll crab his head off, but he'll eventually take it!

I have started to use the rolling out trick to transfer gizmo from the bonding pouch to the inisde of my shirt so he gets use to my touch and scent.
