I want to redo the Expert Village videos on sugar gliders. The speaker is so annoying with her habit of saying 'um' about every other word. It sounds like she's just making excuses about them, and makes suggies sound like horrible little beasts. I want to redo them all (well, most). I find it very hard to sit through and watch just ONE of her videos because of her annoying 'um' habit. So do you guys think that I should redo the videos? They're not going on Expert Village, just on YT. I'm not going to do topics like neutering, because I don't have any experience with that. I only want to do videos on my personal experiences, but let the people who look up how to care for suggies there know that they are WONDERFUL animals and make GREAT pets, but still know the care they need and everything like that. Do you guys think I should do it? Oh! And it'd be AWESOME if others on here did that too! Like on neutering and glider pregnancies and things like that!

Yeah, um, that would, um, be a pretty good, uh, plan. Plus, I think she has some info a bit off...not wrong or anything, just off. Like, she says that to pick a good/healthy glider, it should be quiet. I've never brought home a quiet glider (as a joey) and they are just perfectly wonderful little pets. I mean, don't pick out a glider that is lashing out and biting you, but crabbing has a lot of different causes and can mean a lot of different things. Imagine if none of us ever brought home a sug that crabbed. She also says that joeys should be 12-16 weeks old minimum before being adopted out. This isn't 'wrong' necessarily, but I believe that joeys wean at around 7-8 weeks. Mine go home around 8-12 weeks. She does give the okay to feed cat/dog food as a protein source too. There are a few other things that need tweeked, in my opinion. Her info is pretty good though. There are just some things that made me cringe.

Yeah, um, that would, um, be a pretty good, uh, plan. That totally made my day. I also noticed that in one of her videos, she says something about 'spotted' gliders. I was assuming that she meant mosaic, but for people that aren't familiar with any of the color variations, it could mean a dalmation type of look to them. lol I like (most of) the info she has, but the "Drawbacks of Owning a Sugar Glider" makes them sound like nuisances instead of pets. Plus I find it hard to watch because of "Um, um, um, uh, um." A few comments on the videos I've read are things like, "I learned more about the word UM than sugar gliders!" "I couldn't get through the entire video." And things like that. I noticed that she doesn't have a video on housing.

I agree, these could use some modifying and updating. The um, um's are um a little um annoying as well.
These videos were actually the first bit of information I got about sugar gliders and while most of the information is correct, looking back at it I think other information might have been more helpful.

Same here, NovaStorm. I'm glad I found this forum before I got suggies though. I had to keep pausing the videos and listen to a little bit of a song. I don't know why, but when people don't have their thoughts well planned out already and have to constantly stop and think about what to say, it irriates me to no end! I wouldn't bother me if she said it two or three times in a video, but someone counted 19 in one of the SHORT ones!

Cool deal! I'm working on capturing health demos and such on my visits to the many get togethers I attend. I've also started getting sewing demos. I know there is a large demand for all of the different things that people would like to see covered since I actually did a survey a while back on it. (If you'd like to see the survey results, I can email them to you... they're in Excel format) I'm actually getting as many as I can before turning it into a DVD that could possibly come in an e-kit. But anywho, if you need any help, or want to split the project into to parts, I'm there for ya. It's a LARGE project to tackle. Good luck!

I thought the videos were decent and provided a fair amount of information. I actually liked the video on the drawbacks. I thought what she mentioned was true and something to be prepared for. It gets a lot of the impulse buyer people out of the equation when they hear they will have to scrub food off walls and change their shirt after play time. If everything is sugar coated and made to sound like ANYONE can handle a glider, that's where you run into problems with kids and ignorant people rushing out to get a cute, cuddly glider.
I agree they could use a bit of updating but I would still keep the tone of informational as the speaker did. Remain neutral, present facts, and keep your opinions limited. Good luck!

I agree the videos were informative but she had a little trouble with her presentation. If you have teenage kiddos you become a lot more tolerant of um, like, uh, or well being every other word. OMG I forgot dude.
