Hi there! So I have two little ones that are about 6.5 weeks OOP, and I have luckily found a good home for them to go to. However, I was wondering the best way to split them from their family. I started with Bruce and Sandy, and they have since had Sprusal, and then Izma. So I have kept their other children, and I am worried that they may be expecting for these two to stay also. I don't want to freak out my gliders, and I definitely don't want to freak out the babies. Is there a good way to do this? Thanks so much!

Oh yeah, and they won't be going like right now. They still have 2.5 weeks until they will need to be separated.

That's a tricky one...first make sure the joeys are eating on their own, some mature faster than others in that aspect; I'd have whoever is taking them start coming over and spending time with them (if possible) so they start getting acclimated to their new slave (oops, I mean owner); I'm sure there's a bit of a grieving period for mom & dad, but having each other as well as the other two still in the cage may help. Keep an eye on them and make sure they are handling the transition well.

Although I am knew to breeding, I learned this from Peggy Brewer (slrb). She told me to separate them from their parents a week or so before they go to their new homes. They were over 8wks oop. I set the cage up right beside each other. This way they still see each other. It also allows you to see that they are truly eating on their own. I think this really helped the transition to their new homes.

I always kept track of weights (so I knew if they lost any when separated) and I would separate joeys with thier dad the first night and cages side by side. This way they still had the comfort of a parent, but couldn't nurse. If they lost a couple of grams of weight, they weren't ready. If they maintained their weight, then I would separate dad from them (dad back with mom) and check weights again. Then kept cages side by side until they went to their new home. I also had the new people send scent blankets or a worn t-shirt (to hang over the joeys cage) whenever possible, so they would be more used to their new people's smell.

I don't have any thing to add as far as inof. Just wanted to say that this has helped me to separate bonnie & Clyde's Joeys from them.. although they are 12 weeks opp they will still have the stress of being apart. Thanks for the help and for someone asking the question frist.
