Hi all I had to go to the vet again with Ariel. This is so hard I am at my wits end here. First I noticed last night she would not eat and I almost had to gag her to give her her meds. I forced what little she would eat and drink down her throat but I kept worrying that I was going to make her asperate it. Couldn't find any emergency vet last night so sat up with her all night and tried everything I could. I honestly thought I was going to lose her but she toughed it out. So first thing this morning I called the local vet that I usually see and he was not in today so there was no one that could see her. I called the vet Dr. Folland at Perish Creek vet a two hour drive away only to find out he is also gone for all week. Finally found a local vet that would see her. I took her in and he said she did not look good at all (NO DUH) I got her medical records faxed up from parish creek so he would know what he was dealing with. He did an exam she is extremely dehydrated. Looking in her mouth he thinks she has an absess. He has her on baytril and sub Qd her. The absess is the side that I usually give her medicine and treatment on so I am probably responible for the absess. I dont know how I am going to give her the meds now as this will make it so much harder to give them. Everything is stressing her out even if I touch her she starts to shake. I dont know what to do I am at my wits end here. I am in tears because the vet says we should see improvement in 24 hours with the baytril if we dont maybe it was time to releave her of the misery. I have fought so hard with her I don't know if I can do that. Either way I feel lower than a snakes belly right now I could use a little encouragement here. Also has anyone else given sub Q's before he sent me home with fluid and told me to give her some again if she doesn't look any better I thought I would post before going through the long process of meds and possily sub q again. Please pray for her I honest don't know if this is the last time I will post before having to post on rainbow memorials. She is so bad I don't know what to do.

I'm sorry you're going through this. You are in my thoughts. If you do have to let her go, at least she will go knowing she was loved until the end.

Silverwolf I'm going to give you a couple of HUGE and pray for you that Ariel pulls through. If she has ANY chance of making it, you need to help her fight the infection by getting the meds in her & doing the sub-Q'ing if she isn't drinking. As hard as I know it is on you, I couldn't and wouldn't give up on helping her until she herself gives up. I so wish I could say or do more to help you....

Huge HUGS to you.
I know how hard this is. I am so sorry you are going through this.
Yes, I have given sub-q fluids more than I ever wish I had.
You cannot blame yourself. You CAN'T. She had to have the meds. She still has to.
You are welcome to call me as well. I hope you have already talked to Linda.
Praying for you and Ariel.

Have you ever dealt with Dr. Harris at Wasatch Exotic in SLC? She is fabulous and puts pets before money - she would probably give you any advice over the phone if you're unsure about anything and can't get a hold of your vet. Hoping for a positive update! :hugs:

Do you have any mealworms? Can you get some? You can inject the meds into the mealies and just let her eat it. There are other ways, but sneaking it in through favorite treats is good. With Baytril, maybe a smidgen of ice cream with it...whatever works.

If it is an abcess you may want to get the vet to prescribe some Clindamyacin. I know my situation with Ivy is a bit different as she had a sinus infection, but abcess was another concern on the list, we were able to rule it out, but Clindamyacin was highly reccomended to me and when my girl was non-responsive to the Baytrill I urged my vet to give me the Clindamyacin, it saved her life. Does she have an area that is swelled at all? If so have the vet insert a needle and do a C7S on any liquid that is pulled from it. If it is a tooth that is abcessed the tooth may need to be removed by your vet, so have him look her mouth over good. I am going to go find my thread and post it here for you. There was some wonderful information in there and I think it was xfilefan and suz giving a great deal of the advice that saved my baby. Maybe it will be able to help you too, I can only hope. I have been there and it is scary. Hang and just keep hope in your little one...and I hope she has a fully recovery for you.

As we spoke about yesterday.... Since you are not SURE she has an abscess, focus on the liver issues and getting her a bit stronger for now.
If she continues to improve in such a manner, then you can get a good look in her mouth. Right now, she has much larger issues, though.
I am just so happy she is doing so well. I pray it continues.

Well guys she is still hanging in there tho her improvement in not as quick as I would like. She is eating better and she seems to be such a fighter. I called the vet about her breathing still being hard and he thinks she has a little of the infection in her lungs as well. He wants to keep her on meds and says it may take a week before I see improvement there. Nice of him to let me know this when I was there and not two days later GRRRR vets sometimes. I have not done this much on GC but thought you all might like a picture so you had a better idea of what I am dealing with. I also have a few of her daughter that can show the comparison between her healthy daughter and her at this point. Well I was going to add pics but I cant seem to get them to work. The image part that I have used before does not seem to be working right.

Well here is todays update. She is improving I think. She didn't need the sub q this morning but by this afternoon she did I was so hoping that she would not need it. She has started getting a little diahrea but I think that is from the meds. She is still really sick my 23 year old daughter saw her today and was shocked at how bad she looked. She stated she has never seen her look so pale and sick. She is starting to eat a little on her own but it is still picking at the food not really eating it. i weighed her today and she is 84 grams but her tummy looks a little bloated to me I dont know if it is because of the medicines she is getting or if her liver is just not working very well at all and she can't eleminate all this like she should. She will go back in on monday and we will see what the vet thinks. She is spending alot of time away from her mate and it is driving him nuts. I am also worried because she is not cleaning herself like she should and I don't want to get her wet to clean her as I worry about her getting chilled right now. I could use any advice from you lovely people out here I want to do what is best for her.
