Hey Amanda and everyone, can I say something without ruffling feathers? I know I'm new here and all.
I really would like to warn you on the danger of buying things from the dollar stores. I have been involved with parrots for more than 25 years and alot of things that come from dollar stores come from China.
Alot of stuff that come from China have high levels of lead in them. And although I'm not an expert on sugar gliders, I do know that lead is deadly to parrots, dogs, cats, and humans and is probably deadly to sugar gliders.
I personally wouldn't buy bells from the dollar store just for that reason. I have a list of people that I know that sells bird safe supplies and would be more than likely be safe for sugar gliders, (other than pine wood which is safe for parrots).
I have a safety list also of things that are safe for parrots. I can share it, if someone that is more knowledgeable about sugar gliders would like to look it over and see if it pertains to them as well.
I am a HUGE safety buff because over the years I have seen many friends parrots died of lead poisoning, heavy metal poisoning, from strangling from strings being too long and such.
These little critters have already weaseled their way into my heart and I can't imagine what I did without them before.

Oh Laurie, You're not ruffling any feathers here. I know about the high lead content in product at dollar stores, and I've definitely checked out the products that I buy before I stick them in the cage. I am 100% with you that we should all be more careful with that. Um... I'm not really sure who can go over a list for you... who made the last list that's posted here? Maybe they can help?

Thank you Amanda! I don't want to come off like a know-it-all. I work with a safety committee for parrots and its just such an important issue for me.
Thanks for not being offended!

Thank you Amanda! I don't want to come off like a know-it-all. I work with a safety committee for parrots and its just such an important issue for me. Laurie - when I first got here, I was in the same boat. Know a lot about parrots, not so much about gliders. Learning, learning learning! One thing that really surprised me ... sugar gliders can have and love avocado. After rushing my macaw to an e- vet one night to have her crop pumped full of carbon, because she ate avocado ... feeding my gliders avocado felt so unnatural!

Mom to Valhalla; 6 cats; 1 macaw; 2 hedgehogs; and very many great gliders!

Kyrie, nothing will ever fill the hole you left in my heart.
