Hi everyone. It was suggested in another thread that we should keep track and gather data of tumors in gliders to see if perhaps there may be any correlation with breeding and diet.

The goal of this would be that perhaps gaining new knowledge about tumors might help us in preventing tumors in more gliders (through selective breeding or changes to their diets) or perhaps in reducing their risk factors.

I am offering to gather the data from people and of course if anything jumps out I'd let everyone know right away, but this would probably be a pretty long term study as there have been a lot of posts lately about tumors but it still seems relatively rare.

I have a science degree, but anyone who has a strong background in statistical analysis or anybody who knows their glider-experienced vet would want to jump on board with this, help would be greatly appreciated as I am certainly no expert.

If a glider you currently own or a glider you have previously owned has experienced cancer, if you'd like to contribute data to this study, please PM me the information below:

-Glider's name and gender

-Type of cancer your glider has/had: (lymphoma? liver tumor? etc)

-How old was the glider at diagnosis

-Any information you have about the glider's lineage

-Glider's diet (please be as specific as possible)

-Any other info you consider useful, including (but not limited to):

-how long did your glider live after diagnosis?
-What medical treatment/therapies/etc. did you try to use with your glider?
-Also, any thoughts on treatments that seemed "helpful/successful" or "not helpful."

Thanks in advance to anyone who would be willing to send data for this study.

I tried to do this info as an attachment because it would be easier to gather data that way, but I guess I can't use that type of editable format dunno

Thank you Gina hug2

Honestly though I don't think I'm going to be able to do this study though unless a mod or admin is willing to make this a sticky. Otherwise, if it's lost among all the other board posts, I'm never going to get enough data to make a valid study because nobody will see this post. I know admin must be trying to keep stickies to a minimum, but I'd like to think that this is an important enough topic that an exception could be made.

So, if everyone/anyone really wants to see if there dietary or genetic factors influencing cancer rates in gliders, please PM your favorite mod or admin and ask them to make this a sticky.

If not, I guess this is pretty much the end of the study.
