Why does PPP do what they do? *Rant* #617675

If I am not mistaken (Perfect) Pocket Pets info on their page is very skewed and often blazingly wrong... Why do they sell these poor little animals and exploit unknowing people? It just makes me so darn upset I cannot help but take a moment to rant.

And what is with their diet recommendations? Uhg.

Is (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets run by Mike McGrath or is he just a member? I remember when we got our gliders he told us they could eat cat food. He also had them 'nuetered' the day before he gave them to us. Six months later, one glider has been put to sleep and the other one is all alone now. It just makes me so mad to know that our babies may have been inbred, mutilated, and fed terrible diets, stuffed in trailers, and taken who knows where through who knows what.

I wish I had known then what I know now. Now I am trying to provide the best, but I wonder about all the other people getting sucked into the ploys of these mill breeders. frown

Sorry, I just needed to get that out.

Yes, Mike McGrath is the owner.

One word as to why he does this and all mill breeders.

MONEY.

It's heartbreaking frown

Mike McGrath is Sugar Glider Connection in TX, not (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets. I believe (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets is in AZ. Both are mill breeders, though. Just 2 different ones.

Mike McGrath isn't part of Perfect Pocket Pets. Believe it or not, there are two of them.....However; (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets does purchase their gliders in bulk from a TX mill, I don't think it's Mike though. I think it's another one and the name escapes me at the moment, but yea, they're both pretty much the amoebes on the pond scum of life if you ask me.

I am totally unboard with those feelings, especially being that I was one who fell into their trap.

I am happy that I am giving two of the pp gliders a very happy, safe, and healthy home, but can't seem to get it out of my mind what is happening to the other gliders from them....

Mike Mcgrath has nothing to do with (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets. (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets is owned by Virgil Klunder. He has 2 operations one is in Georgia and their main breeding office(glider mill) is in Cape Coral, Florida. They have their own breeding operation but 4 or 5 smaller subsidiaries which are the ones we all see and hear about at the trade shows and fairs (They all use the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets name). They do have ties to Custom Cage works in Tx mainly they buy their tiny starter cages from CCC & Im sure they swap joey's back and forth when one is in need.

It's all for the money.... It's sad, but they are just disposable items to (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets.

OMG! What the (censored)?!@$%# I am sooooo glad someone told me about Mike. I have actually called & spoke w/ him numerous times about my gliders. I purchased mine from a pet store local to my home. Let me tell you, they weren't very helpful when it came to info. It was my own fault, I should've done more research before I purchased one. But I saw her & had to have her, she was sooooo precious. Still is & now is a mama to 2 beauty's "Eja" and "Amarri." Both 9 days oop. Mike told me that yes, " You can feed them cat food." So I did. They ate it, loved it. I took that away & now they are eating their BML, fruits, veggies, insects & glider food. I didn't even know about the calcium supp & vitamins either, I guess thats the only good thing I got out of the conversation w/ him. Also he said, "why give them nectar to drink when you're feeding them fruit?" They get all they need from that. Sooooo... stupid ? but do any of you give nectar along w/ water? I just wanted the facts. Lord knows I love my fuzzbutts to death & if I accidently harmed them in any way I'd lose it.

I read that and the first thing that came to mind was those little cardboard boxes of chicks that are shipped all over the place at just 2 or 3 days old.

It is sad the way they breed the gliders.

Ha there are moneymaker everywhere!! I looked at an albino hedgehog at a pet store. I asked if it was male or female and the clerk was like "oh i haven't the slightest and that it was a baby". Then I asked, "Ok can I see it?" She was like "Umm.. the person that handles it isn't here". I told her I had experience and she was like "oh ok sure!". First off, I sexed it for her. Then I had to inform her that not only did it have an infection in its eye, but also mites! I could see them crawling EVERYWHERE!! Then I had to explain to her that there was no way that this hedgehog was a baby, in fact it was more like 2 years old and her price was extremely overcharging. I feel so bad for those poor critters. Its horrible!

I agree w/ you completey. When I purchased my first glider & second from a pet store... they hadn't a clue how old they were. I asked if they knew what they ate, I was told just fruit, bugs, veggies & nectar. I hadn't the slighest if I had to bathe them, if they needed shots (like my sons ferret), I knew nothing about calicum or vitamins. Plus like you said, the girl was scared to death to touch it. So I asked her if I could, she said sure, so I reached in & was crabbed at... she bit me, but not hard. From that day on I went to the pet store every chance I got & I played & spent time w/ her. I bonded w/ her at the pet store before I begged & begged my husband for the money to purchase her. Then I found out I needed another one that it's not a good idea to have just one. Well, I looked for 4 months... they finally got more in. They sold there very first glider to me & their second. I purchased an adult male, so they said. I still have NO idea how old he is? He's mean, the only way I can touch him is if I'm feeding him mealies or yogies. They just had 2 joeys 8-13-08, a girl & a boy. My gliders are just the gray ones, but I'd LOVE so very much to have a white face one, UGH! My hubby would have a stroke if I asked for $1500-$2000 for one, heck, he won't even pay $900 for a PUG which I have wanted FOREVER! I don't think pet stores should be allowed to sell animals that they have no clue about. They should all be informed & educated that way if a customer has questions they can answer them. If it wasn't for this site there's no telling where my gliders would be? Thanks to all of you for what you do for the love of all of our fuzzbutts. smile

chastity, I'm so glad you were able to give those two gliders a good home. Maybe you could go one step further and leave some flyers or cards directing people here at that pet store. I've got some GC cards and a bunch of note pads with the GC address on them I plan to leave at places that sell gliders.

One thing I would suggest for you, though is to have your male neutered. Since you don't know the background of your gliders, it's really not a good idea to breed them. Chances are, they came from a mill or possibly a breeder who doesn't keep track and therefore they may be related.

By the way, I think WFB's are only about $300 - $400. It's the Leu's, albinos and mosaics that are so expensive.

It's so terrible. frown I am glad that some of us have given these poor milled babies a home, but I really want to do something to stop mills from happening in the first place!
