Might be stupid questions but:
I know in the faq's I had read a few negative things that can happen after neutering (SM), but I was wondering if there was any other negative emotional/mental effects due to neutering? I mean, I'd only assuming taking away the ability to procreate has to have some negative effects on the mind/emotional stability of a male considering mating is one of the main desire's of most animals.
Also, how much does a neutered male's personality change (I'm talking an older male, not a younger one that obviously never had the drive to want to produce)? I'm assuming there is a slight 'depression' that comes from being neutered as I could see SM being a part of that.
I'm looking into getting my male neutered and I just had these questions on my mind so I figured I'd ask.

My man was neutered when he was almost 3years old. Previously, him and his girly had been a breeding pair. But, it will be 1yr since his neuter in October. I didn't own him before his neuter but I was told that he was a total mush and well, he still is! When he was neutered, he had his pom removed and didn't sm at all. Guess we got lucky, eh? But, I haven't noticed him being depressed about not being able to produce anymore...he still has the urge to mate when his girly is in heat but seriously, I don't think he knows he's neutered!! He marks everything new, chases her around during her heat cycle, and does pretty much everything else an intact male would do. I wouldn't do it again though! If I get another male, I'm getting him neutered before he's fully matured. I can't stand playing with them while she's in heat. -.-;; Either I take her out and she gets her "scent" all over me which means he starts licking it and rubbing his chest on it the next night assuming that I play with him first...or, he starts trying to mate with me because his hormones are crazy! Believe me, he's tried it once. Latched onto the back of my neck and started rubbing himself on me. I don't think he was marking me either! And with them out together...ehhh...he tries to mate with her on ME.

I've had males of all ages neutered and I've NEVER seen any negative "mental" issues with any of them. I think Dexter was the oldest when he was neutered at about 7 yrs old.
For gliders, mating is a hormone driven action. Neutering reduces the hormones responsible for that urge. It isn't a contious "I wanna have fun" type of thing with gliders.

It will depend on the male and the process used to neuter (poms on or poms off) but if a male is neutered after sexual maturity, some males maintain the urge to mate when a female is in heat (and do continue mating behavior). I have had two mature males neutered with poms on and both boys have continued to mate their partners when the girls are in heat. As for changes in behavior, again, this will depend on the glider. My oldest male was aggressive, crabby and downright upset with me most of the time. After he was neutered...he was aggressive, crabby, and pretty much the same as he was before. Not to say that neutering doesn't help with aggressive behavior, I continued to work with him and found he was more receptive more quickly than he had been when intact...and we made progress more quickly. While he still isn't a snuggle bug, he doesn't bite anymore and we both happy with the relationship we have. The other boy I had neutered after sexual maturity was always sweet, my baby. I didn't notice a personality change in him at all. He's still as sweet as always. All three of my boys scent mark (my youngest male was neutered before maturity). Heck, one of my females heavily scent marks, even grabbing the boys and head rubbing them. None of my boys even seemed to notice they were neutered, they all went back in with their cage mates the same night and were acting normal the next day. (But this is just the experience I've had with my three). Hope it eases your mind somewhat.
