Do you know what can cause oily/crustys clumps on top of the head? Its around the "bald spot" like maybe, the oil from his scent gland is clumping on top of his head, no scabs, but a little hair loss. Can it be over grooming?

Here are some pics

You can try and gently clean the area with a warm cloth. If it looks like there is an infection I would get him in to see a vet for medical treatment.
He sure is a cutie pie!

It doesn't look like there is an infection, you can pull the "clumps" off and its just oily, you can smush it inbetween your fingers (almost like dirty ear wax or something). There is no redness or anything on his head. And he is acting fine. He will let me mess with it, doesn't seem to bother him.

Simon gets like that every now and again, most often when I clean too much of their cage at once and he's gotta scent it back up wink

My male Zeus had crusties on his bald patch when we first got him. The vet said he SHOULD be cleaning those out himself but he was being "a guy" and wasn't really keeping himself well groomed, so we just wet a Q-tip with warm water and cleaned it out gently for him.

If he is depressed over losing a cage mate, this could be contributing to his lack of grooming to keep it clean. Sometimes depression can result in overgrooming, but sometimes it can also lead to the little gliders not grooming enough at all.

hug2 Hope he cheers up or you are able to find him a buddy!

If he doesn't have a cage mate that will help him keep his bald spot clean, it can crust up like that. To keep it from getting clogged and infected, it would be best for you to take over grooming duties and gently rub it with a warm wet cloth every day or every couple of days (depending on how quickly it gunks up again) to get rid of the build up.

When I just had Milo his bald spot was almost that bad. He didn't really clean himself that great. Then I got Lucy and she cleans his bald spot for him, along with his tail. Now its always squeaky clean! smile
