is there any actual formula or any way to tell whether a Leu het will produce a Leu? Like if you have the full lineage of both suggies is there something in that lineage that may tell the more or less likely hood of getting a leu? Has anyone tried to track a linear system down for hets? I think it would interesting if there was a type of pattern available to help determine the likely hood of getting a leu from certain hets from different lines ^_^ Or am I just rambling nonsense again LOL I am quite tired.

there's no way to actually tell if a het (other than a 100% het) carries the gene without breeding the het.

so there is no possible way to research the line of hets that produced leus and the ones that haven't and see with the ones that have produced leus if there is a similarity in appearance or in the lineage?

Not that I'm aware of because some of the possible hets won't have the gene, even if they're from the same pairing dunno

I thought that there was such thing a "leu het" coloring, people here always talk about it. Not sure what it is supposed to look like though...and there is still no garuntee b/c it looks like it may have the gene does not mean it will.

You can also prove out a possible het parent, if paired to a normal, if a child produces white. Example- 50% het dad paired to a normal, and their 25% het child produces a white baby.

I have 6 leu hets, 100%, 33% now proven 100%, 66% now proven 100% and 3 66% hets... The one WF 66% het was sold to me and I was told she had "het coloring" She is paired with a gray, and when their son was born he had a different coloring than his sister (even more different than a wf/grey difference), so I kept him. He is paired with a WF 100%, and just proved out to be a 100% het (which also proved his mom to be a 100% making Kris 100% correct that she has het coloring).

that's interesting. So what is het "coloring" then? Are they just lighter than a normal glide their color. BTW thank you for being so patient with me Becki LOL all these genetic things just confuse me ^_^

Het coloring, to me, is a lighter color overall. I bought Bo as a WFB 66% leu het and he was lighter than his brother and kind of just had that look. He proved out to be 100%. I bought Bianca as a WFB 100% leu het and she has always had a lighter mark in her black stripe on her head. Their new baby is light and has a lighter mark in his black stripe, so I think he has the het coloring, too.

ah now I see lol thank you Chrissy for helping me out with that. So what if you have a leu het with het coloring but the het you pair them with does not have het coloring does that necessarily mean anything?

here's another question if everyone doesn't mind. Has anyone had a 33% prove out when paired with a 66%?

not sure, I know someone that's proven a 25% and 50% pair though wink (my 33% was paired with a 100% so no help there, lol)

LOL wow now that's playing with the lottery that is very cool. I'm debating myself whether to get a 33% or a 100% i don't care really if i get leu's out of either cause they are super sweet and i'm just excited to get a pair of gliders that are both beautiful outside and have stunning personalities.

BTW so if you pair a glider with a percentage of leu het with a 100% het then does that necessarily guarantee you a leu or is it more like it gives you a much higher percentage of getting one? well let me clarify does the 100% het guarantee you a leu is what I am asking despite what percentage you pair them with? Sorry I think I"m confused LOL

No, you have to have 2 100% het leus or 100% het and leu to get a leu. Whatever the percentage of het the glider is is the percentage of possibility that that glider will be 100% het and able to produce a leu when paired with a leu or 100% leu het.

Such as if 66% leu het, you have a 66% chance that the glider is 100% het for leu, a 33% leu het, you only have a 33% chance that the glider is 100% het for leu.

People like to pair the 100% het with lower hets because there it is easier to prove them out. You know one has the gene then if the other has it you will get a leu and prove the lower het to be 100% het. With two lesser hets one may have the gene but if the other does not you could only prove them out through the offspring eventually. It is kinda like the lottery I guess if you have a very low het smile Not too long ago someone here had a suprize leu-they thought their gliders were both just normal. Talk about a crazy surprize! lol

Ah ok LOL thank you Chrissy for clearing that up for me I guess I was confused on what the percentage actually pertained to lol. Wow Erin now THAT would be a crazy surprise LOL. Thank you so much to EVERYONE for putting up with my annoying questions on this. You all are so very kind and patient! ^_^

It's always interesting to watch hets prove out. I have 2 girls that were formerly 16.5% leu hets and are now 50% leu hets. Their mom was a 33% leu het and went on to produce a leu smile I have them paired with another 50% leu het, with het coloring. We'll see if I get lucky smile I also proved out a female that was a 25% leu het recently...
