Just wondering if anyone has ever observed this behavior.....

Last night, while Ike was making landfall way North of us in Corpus, all of my Suggies started acting odd. They would cling to the side of the cage upside down and they would go all still and then their tails would undulate.......it's the only word I can think to use....like a snake....they did this off and on all night long. No barking or crabbing. One of my females usually "sings" all night.....not a peep last night out of our little Rock Star.

The only thing I could think of was that they were either reacting to the weather (even though we got hardly a breeze out of it), or maybe reaction to my stress over it??

Any Ideas? Any opinions would be welcome.

Ivory

Whenever there is a storm like a big thunder storm or something like that my gliders will act funny also. They feel it before it comes and start bouncing around the cage going crazy, not in the norm. My however will start barking sometimes to get my attention so I will come to them.

After I get there they will go into their pouch and I have to stick my hand in there. Then they grab and hold onto my hand and will not let go until they fall asleep since my hand makes them feel comfort.

Gliders can feel the storms and can feel your stress so the mixture of both can make them act different.

I agree. The "snakey tail" is a silent warning, body language. That they do react to things in nature even when we cannot sense anything is well documented. Your stress can also be a factor, but if they were already doing it before you went in, it was probably the storm.

PS...I get such a kick out of the "snakey tail", and the "glider dance"! roflmao

Some of my gliders get a lil nervous-more not than do-but I have one real oddball. She loves to sit in the window and watch a good thunder and lightning storm. She's very calm and actually seems to really enjoy it-she's never still while out of the cage unless this is going on and I allow her to watch. She'll either sit in the window in their room or I'll put her on my shoulder and go sit on the couch in the living room in front of the big picture window. Occasionally she will stand up and put her front paws on the window like she wants to go out and be in it-silly girl. My hubby is a storm/weather buff so I'd say she gets it from him but she's our only glider that for some reason just does not like him-bites/pierces his ear any chance she gets and she hasn't bit anyone else in close to a year. dunno

I cannot wait until we get another good lightening storm!
We had a "cold front" move in today....a whole 89 degrees low.....and it came with the thunder & lightening as usual.....sure enough, they were out of the pouch and all doing the Tail Dance.....hope to catch it on film next time!

If the storms are frequent enough, they will probably become used to them over time and stop reacting that way. It sure is fun to watch, tho (lol)!
