Both the leu & albino genes are ressesive so unless both parents carry the gene you will only produce hets

That's a good question. Everyone is too nervous to give it a try, to my knowledge. The theory is grey double-hets, but IMO, since there isn't a grey color code, I don't see how there can be grey babies. My guess is, whichever gene is dominant over the other, and since leucism still exibits melanin in the eye, I would guess 100% albino/cremino het leucistic babies.

What I *don't* understand, though, is that people have put leu hets and albino hets together. They only get greys. You can see babies that are 50% albino, 50% leucistic hets...if my theory ran true, there would be a leucistic baby thrown every 4th joey, and there would be no doubt that it was also an albino het...because leucism would be the only gene dominant over albinism.

I believe they would be 100% hets for both, Cremino and leu..:)

Well, I tend to think that the cremino gene is a different animal than the albino gene...it *does* have a color code, it's there, you can see the stripes and markings. I hadn't known about that breeding though, very interesting.

I am NO expert, I am just very interested too, so I have been reading up on it. You are right there is some color to the cremino but from what everyone says it is more like the albino gene. Look read this post it has alot of the really technical stuff.

Yup, I remember that thread, LOL, I followed it until it's termination but I didn't post because I don't know enough about it. I hear a few people are considering giving the albino x leu a try, I personally can't wait to see what comes of it.

I am willing to give a try, but I need an female Albino or Creme-ino about 1 to 2 years old to match my Leu. Does anyone can offer a "very very" better price? As I know the market price for albino is around $3000, $5000 for the creme-ino. But economy is very bad at this time, I can pay at once, not in payment.

I wouldn't mind "babysitting" a little albino girl for my boy, but...oops...she bonded to me...too bad! LOL

actually, albinos cost more than creaminos because albino is a rarer color... last i saw they were in the $7-10,000 range shock

Albinism isn't really a gene, but more of a lack of pigmentation. Certain enzymes produce a chemical called tyrosinase, so the more of that you have working, the more color you get. I don't know if it's just because the enzymes aren't active, or are completely gone, but IMO, it's just that they're present, but they're just not active. If you breed a creamino to an albino, the enzymes will probably start to get going, which is why they have gray babies and you get double hets. (IMO.)
But I DO know that if you breed an albino to a creamino, you're going to get double hets.

I've also heard that breeding a leu to an albino will get you blue eyed leus. I don't believe that's true though, because in the snake world, there are a LOT of different snakes you can breed together to get blue eyes leus, and I'm not totally sure if albino x leu is one of them.
JMO, though.

Albinos are actually now in the $7,000-$10,000 range...

Oh yeah, there's a theory that if you put an albino and a leu together then you will get a blue-eyed white. I think that theory was formed because that's how it has worked out with other animals.

I would like to put in - if I'm wrong in the info I gave (which I'm sure there's a few parts where I'm way off) feel free to correct me.

I heard on animal planet that white cats w/blue eyes are deaf! That would be a pretty glider w/blue eyes, as long as it didn't cause them to be deaf.

I think it's based on the snake variant, the blue eyed white leucistic snake.

But, did those blue eyed white cats come from an albino and a leucistic?

Maybe if they were deaf then they wouldn't bark...or, on the other hand, maybe they'd bark their heads of and not realise it. roflmao

One plus of blue eyes is that they'd be able to see better then albinos with red eyes[(since albinos have worse eyesite from the lack of melanin) correct me if I'm wrong on that...]. wink

I am totally lost when it comes to hets and breeding this to that. I'm definetly leaving that to the experts. But it is an interesting thought? hum And I didn't realize that Albinos were so expensive. WOW Actually I have never had any luck w/ animals w/red eyes. They just hate me!!!!!

Hey Nicole, That is a good point- they wouldn't bark in the middle of the night, just to be barking!!!! I always jump up to see what is wrong. And there is nothing!!!!!
