Just a quick reminder since cold weather is approaching. PLEASE check the temperature in your glider rooms! I just found one of my boys lethargic and cold, even though the glider room was comfy to me. Once he was warmed up... he was ok. It's a scary thing though! YOU being comfortable with the temperature isn't enough. Check what the temperature in their area actually is! Kick the heater on if need be!

I'm about to leave for an hour, but I loaded EVERYONES pouches with extra blankies. I also kicked my heater on about 73 degrees for them... to take any chill out of the air.

I got an oil filled heater just for this room... unfortunately my glider room is the coldest room in the house (my luck) so the heater will come in handy the short period of time it does get cold in TX.

Yep the general house temp is 65 and while that is VERY comfy for my fiance and I , plus the extra fuzzies its too cold for the sugs. But I try and put off turning on the heat as long as possible. So I found a little "heater fan" that I set to keep the glider room at 75 and it turns itself on and off as the temp varies within degree's of 75. Cool to the touch to so if a glider got out it would be safe so woohoo !

I keep a small heater in the glider room just in case. I fine my gliders like it at 70-72 degree's. They play more at night at this temp if it is warmer they do not seem to come out as much. I keep it this way yr round. I have a room thermometer on 2 walls and check it 2-3 tines a day.

I also feel keeping it at a consistent temp is best.

It's funny how every time I get on, someone has just asked the question I was about to. My hubby keeps telling me it's too hot in the room since I turned on the space heater, the big electric heater, and both heating lamps for the cage. (We live near Buffalo folks!) I have a thermometer about 5 inches from their current sleeping pouch that reads 80 degrees right now. I'll keep an eye on their activity level and adjust as needed. Thanks everyone for asking and sharing.

Thanks for reminding me I have to clean my heat emitter. ^-^ It's all dusty and the kids have been flinging food at it during the summer. -.-;;

68 in the house and I'm freezing...my room is around 70 right now though. Last winter, I used a heat emitter and a ton of blankets and it kept my cage nice and toasty. I think this year though, I'm going to go with my heat emitter for a couple hours then close my cage all off with a fleece no-sew cover to keep it in.

Man...your gliders are all lucky though. Mine get to deal with up to 85F and as low as 67F...of course, that's with a small pouch with lots of blankies for the colder weather and a big no-sew cube with no blankies for the summer. I know...I'm a bad mommy. No problems so far though and Yang enjoyed his Pedialyte once in a while this summer. laugh Hope your kids are all doin alright now, Becci and that they stay good.

I would be concerned about the exhaust from an oil heater. Is it vented? Maybe I'm thinking about a kerosene heater, which has awful smelling fumes.

We have our house heater mostly around 70/65degrees.
But I have a separate heating unit in my glider's room.
This morning it was 18degrees shakehead here in Sisters when my hubby woke up.

Well, Phoenix seems to be doing 100% okay now. He gave me a good bite this morning when I gave him a pinenut to perk him up. Littler stinker got me good, and would NOT let go. tant

I checked on him as soon as I got home from my first class and he tried to bite me again. *Grumbles* That tells me that he's back to his normal moody self though. Lol!

Now I have a new problem. My heater is FRIED! The repair place told me on the phone that the pet dander from all my babies (not counting the sugs) has fried my heater. HUH? Is that possible? I have dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, sugs, and a g. pig. I've never had my animals fry one before.... and I've ALWAYS had a large number of pets. dunno

How old is your heater? sounds like they just don't want to fix it.

Wha? 0.o Never heard of that happening before! I mean...pet dander frying your heater? Is that possible? I could imagine hair doing it but...I dunno.

Yay for heating up the living room. :S Running my heat emitter a bit so it gets used to working again and doesn't smell like burning plastic. Gonna be a cold one tonight... frown Meh. I still go by hot vs. cold instead of temperature for my guys...I'm extremly sensitive to hot and cold so it works out nicely for me. I have blue lips at 70 and can barely move for cripes sakes! roflmao You're my hero though because I almost forgot to clean it. If I did, they would have been without heat again tonight and it's already too cold in here for me. It's going to be freezing tonight. frown

Glad to hear the lil man is uhh...back to his moody self. o.0 That's the only time I'll say that I'm glad a glider is being moody again.

the first year I had gliders i had them rigged up with the ceramic heater and thermostat and kept them nice and toasty. After that i just covered the face of the cage with fleece at night when it is cold and they did very well for two years like that.

Last year I swapped out aLL of my heating pads for rehab animals to seed mats since they don't overheat or catch fire and they have kept my baby critters nice and toasty all summer with the AC running. I have new flight cages that have fleece on three sides and in the bottom of the cage. I think I may slip a seed pad in the tray of each one and see how warm that keeps them. My thermostat is set to change temps to cooler when I go to work and go to bed and the seed pads are supposed to be 15 degrees warmer than the ambient temperature in the room. Since I am gone all day I don't feel really comfortable leaving a space heater running.

But then again if Mira gets preggers and has babies I will probably change my mind about the heater

It's 6 years old or newer. I can't remember exactly without looking at my paperwork. It's not very old though. I'm guessing it's more like 3-4.

My fuzzy room is also the coldest in the house. So I leave the doors open. I keep the thermostat on 70. It gets colder at night of course, so I knock it up to 75. I gave my furbutts a few extra large blankies as well.

OK, I'm in Oklahoma. It gets kind of chilly where I am because I'm only about 4 miles from a lake. But the gliders room is right off the living room which not only has a fireplace with it's own blower, but a propane heater too. I'm glad someone said something because during the summer I watched but I don't know why I never thought about winter, duh!

I use the little digital thermometers that you can get in the home improvement section of Walmart for like $6 - Just put one up by your cages & you know exactly what temp your gliders are feeling thumb

Also, I aim for 73 degrees in my glider areas - I would DEFINATLY never go lower than 70!

ordered them online through a garden supply place, don't remember exactly which one. They are pricey but extremly safe.

this is just an example http://www.qcsupply.com/Products/474.aspx

for rehab I put a towel under them and a handtowel over them and place the baby container over 1/2-2/3 of the mat.

I was planning on putting one in the tray underneath the cage since warm air travels up...............
