Are you not with him? Who is Pedro? If you're not with him, I would go see for yourself what behavior he's exhibiting before you worry.

For those reading this - this lil glider has lost 32g in the last 2 months, thats why he's going to the vet this afternoon...

Yes, I would go ahead and take him now. Don't even call, just go.

Make sure that he is not dehydrated, and keep him warm.

Ceciley said the Haji is being abnormally Hyperactive and the tent test is taking about 5 seconds before the skin settles.

It doesn't sound like he is dehydrated then. Is she able to get him to the vet now?
If she can, have her put him in her bra, under her shirt, and keep him warm.
I would also see if she can move him into a smaller cage without toys etc.. until she can get him to the vet so that he doesn't cause injury to himself.

I just got off the phone with Ceciley. She is on her way to the vets. Haji has settled down somewhat, so we will see how things are after she has him looked at.
Sending lots of hugs and prayers!

Thanks for posting Linda - I have never heard of this 'jumping behavior' being an indication of an illness, but you never know with suggies. Maybe someone else will come along with a little more knowledge in this area. Normally I would not be so worried, except I know this little boy has lost a lot of weight in a very short time period. I'm very glad his mommy is taking him to the vet.

UPdate: I just got off the phone with Ceciley. Haji is doing alright, he was diagnosed having Calcium Deficiency. He is on a liquid calcium supplement, and will be rechecked again in two weeks.
I'm sure Ceciley will be along shortly with more details.
I'm just happy to hear that he's going to be alright. hug2

Thank you all soo sooo SOOOOOOO much. i cannot sincerely express how grateful i am to this wonderful community and all the people in it. The vet (who hasnt seen him since his neuter in mid september) immediately saw how much weight he had lost and was concerned. he was acting normal when we got him to the vet (with the exception of biting pedro's ear. lol. my little sweetie has never bitten anyone before! thats the only unusual behavior)and she watched him and felt him. he weighed a little more than he did yesterday at 105g rather than 101g. I figure its probably the 3 mealies and half an apple he ate while in his pouch while i was at school with him on me.

when we were in the bathroom he jumped for the mirror and hit kinda hard. afterwards he was jumping towards something in the air and almost doing a backflip like thing. pedro thought it was only a trick and i remember reading somewhere about a glider reaching for something taht wasnt there and it passing away a little while late. so i instantly have pedro stay in the bathroom and watch haji while i type. he was calling out to me what he was doing while i was explaining the situation.

the dr said its probably a calcium deficiency (i dont have my gliders on a specific diet plan. i just do 25,25,50 and try to watch the cal:phos. it could have developed from his previous "home" (and i'm using that term loosley). they gave me a liquid calcium supplement to give to him once a day. i'm to come back in two weeks and have him checked out again and re-weighed. she said she thinks his weight is fine where its at but the drop was too sudden. like a 300lb person dropping to 150 in a matter of months. its healthier but not that fast. Haji seemed to appreciate her squeezing us in earlier than planned since he tried to face hug her. lol.

well thats a really long update and i know i'm just rambling anymore but i'm so super relieved to know that haji is ok, that there is such an awesome place to go for advice when you need it asap such as glidercentral and that there are so many kind people still in the world when it comes to something we all share an indescribable passion for. i couldnt imagine what i'd do without you all. Thank you so much Ms Linda for offering to pay the bill. Even tho i had exact change in my pocket, it still means the world to me that you would offer. thank you all so much.
I've been so stressed with work, school and my babies (as well as myself being a clutz and managing to sprain my right wrist and slice open my left hand within two weeks of each other) that it means so much that there are people who care out there.

thank you all. i promise to stop rambling now. god bless!
oh and haji says hi and thanks too!
Ceciley

There are certainly some angels in our midst...

On the diet...its very hard to get a glider's diet right unless you're a nutritionist or have a lot of time for research. I HIGHLY suggest getting all of your babies on a proven diet as soon as possible. You can find a list of proven diets here: http://www.glidercentral.net/links/pages/Glider_Care___Information/Diet___Nutrition/index.html

The top three right now seem to be BML, HPW, and Priscilla's. Read the recipes for all of them & see which one will fit best for you & your babies.

I really can't stress diet enough, its such an important factor in a suggie's life.

we just got home. ugh what a day!!! *breathes sigh of relief* i tried the HPWwhen i first got hiro and mitsuki. i still have some so i'm gonna try it again. the vet said haji should be pretty quick to take the calcium suplement since its sweet but i couldnt get him to so since im out of yogurt at the moment (our last tub went bad) and didnt have anything handy i just burito'd him up and he took it easily when he had no distractions. lol. oh and to answer your earlier question Monster, he does eat well. hes eating better than he ate when i first got him. when i first got him he'd only stay up for an hour or two a night. now hes the first one up and the last to bed. my poor little guy.

me too. he did ok with the metacam when he had his neuter but i took him off it because it was really affecting his energy. he didnt leave the pouch for the entire two days to eat drink or relieve himself so i took him off after i'd been hand feeding and watering him for two full days. he wasnt thrilled about this stuff but he doesnt shake his head when he takes it and i'm a lot more confident about holding him when i do it now that i've had a bit of practice.

hugs! thank you so much Linda. it means so much to me. i cried all the way to the vet. i tried to stay calm and idk if pedro was just trying to make me laugh or distract me or what but he kept pointing out things to me like "that kmart sign looks weird." "when did they build that mcdonalds?""have you tried that new restraunt?", "oh did i tell you that so-and-so arent getting married after all?" etc. lol. me being in traffic, in a panic and in tears is not necesarily a good time to try to distract me but w/e. lol.

i'm litterally about to collapse from being overworked, school, stress and lack of sleep from brandon waking up in the middle of the night to tell me about some videogame in his sleep or screaming and punching our matress(no thats not why i keep getting hurt, but the sprain is from me making fun of him for that last one. note to self:if you've never punched anything in your life, dont try to punch the floor. wrists arent supposed to bend that far backwards. lol). its been a ...month...lol.

i'm gonna go soak in the tub for an hour or two, read a book, make dinner for my fuzzy kids and go to bed!!!!!! lol

thank you all so much and a special thank you to you linda once again. im gonna get some rest so i can get ready to go hang out tomorrow night in town.

happy halloween. i'm tired of the tricks now wheres my darn treat? oh yeah haji gave me kisses all through the vets office so i guess i gots some sugar already today. lol.

definately. just had to re-wrap my hand cuz i lost the little clipie thingies (of course! after they'd been stabbing me for two days! lol.) now the way this one is going is constricting my fingers a bit so typing is difficult but the support from the pressure feels so good. lol. i planned on calling the lady who gave haji to me yesterday but didnt get a chance so i called her today and let her know what was up. shes glad that hes getting proper care (she has the same vet for her skunks) and she is glad that hes happy with his new family (furry and otherwise). i'm so relieved that everything is alright for now. i'm hopin that nov 13 will tell us the same. my poor hodge-podge! he gives the sweetest kisses too! sometimes i swear i like his kisses more than my fiances! lol. jk. but haji's are the sweetest. its a tough call. lol.

I'm glad you got the medicine down him - how did they like the HPW last night? It may take some effort on your part to get them to eat it. You may have to try a few different tricks before they will switch, but being on a proven diet really is the best thing for them - I wouldn't steer ya wrong wink

ugh so tired! lol.

now that i think about it no she didnt. she looked him over and said that she thinks calcium deficiency could be the cause and asked what i gave them as a suplement. when i told her i just watched the ratios she said she figured it was that and gave me the calcium suplement to see if atleast he would stop losing weight. and if he acts like this again to bring him in for bloodwork.
