I was just thinking about all of the false information out there about suggie leashes... all the different ones you can buy (or make). shakehead

Being a breeder, I frequently get questions from people who know NOTHING about gliders, for instance:

What IS a sugar glider?
What do they eat?
Are they friendly?

and so on it goes, until I answer all of their questions and suggest GC to them for further info read . I never worry about these questions because with just a little bit of research... all of these questions can be answered easily and correctly.

The questions I DO worry about come from fairly well educated people who already have gliders!

I got an e-mail from a woman who bought a glider from me about a year ago. She is very suggie knowledgeable and takes better care of her glider than most people do of their kids! (ok that was not true... but just to stress my point smile )

It was the general update on the little one, how she was, pictures, and what she had been up to lately. Then came THE QUESTION

"Is there a leash I can buy for her? I take her to work with me in my bonding pouch and during lunch I go outside to eat. I'd like to take her out of her pouch then but I worry because it is completely outside."

I responded with a no, and explained why there was no suggie safe leash on the market...

BUT, I feel that TOO MANY PEOPLE falsely believe that leashes are ok for gliders because of the many that are advertised and sold as safe. worried

So I thought that the best way to get the word out is to create a small pamphlet or web page that advertises the "Tried True and Tested Suggie Safe Leash" and then gives complete information about bonding with your suggie and why material leashes are not safe.

If we were to make a web site, or give out these pamphlets at trade shows or pet shops then people interested in buying a leash would pick up the pamphlet or find the web site and would then get the truthful knowledge they need! clap

What do you think? dunno It was just an idea that I had, because advertising a "suggie leash" certainly draws attention!

I think the webpage is a very good idea. Then everyone who does a Google search when they are looking to buy a glider leash would stumble upon your site instead. Fantastic!

i'm all for getting something posted @ every opportunity one of you gets, as this will help me, & so many other people like myself.
the 2 books out their by kathleen, or carolyn(can't remember first name!!) & the one from peggy are good books, but so much more can be said. someone should do another book, from everyone who posted stuff here. then, the royalties from that book can go to tgi, or all4gliders. for the rescues & rescuers, because there are just sooo mannny
babies out there that need a good loving home.
i know that this is alot to ask for, & i'm sure you would probably think,'well, if she wants this, why doesn't she do it?', well to be honest w/you, i really don't have the smarts as so many of you have proven to me that you do.
i am constantly amazed @ all of you, you guys could be rich if there was some way to pay you for all you do & say in here.so rich in knowledge.
in this day & age, unfortunatly, there are still people out there that do not have computers, so, another book on the gliders would be great for them.
anyway, that's my 2cents worth
talk @ ya L8R

Maybe you could contact that guy who has the beautiful videos on UTube?

He's the one that has to run away from his glider across the grass, as she only wants to be on HIM! He lets her climb a vine on the wall outside - and she glides to him. THAT is one amazing leash! She ADORES him!

Thank you for the outstanding response! I am able to make a web site and will be working on it over the next few weeks...

LSardou, YES! You could help me out a TON!

Anyone else can help too! All I need is bonding info and links and who to give credit too. I will probably make several links with types of bonding (Tent Time, Licky Treats, bonding Pouch etc.) and then on each page I will state some of the basics and give links to here for further info and credit to those who wrote the information. I think I may also ask permission to link to the man's videos on Utube... I have seen them, I think they are great. (I wouldn't feel quite safe enough, but it is an excellent example of a good bond)

Also... PICTURES! I have a few of my own, but I will need pictures illustrating the different types of bonding and of course of happy, healthy suggies! I will need permission to use the pictures and will also give credit to each picture.

I am not the best at creating web pages, but I think I can come up with something basic!

Does anyone know how to get a page to come up on the first page on Google when someone types in Sugar Glider Leash?

Alden, that is Sutton and Suzie. I've had the pleasure of snuggling with those babies and they adore Richard. Unlike most of us though, he keeps them with him nearly 24 hours a day and that's unrealistic for most of us. Not only do they adore Richard, but they are very social gliders and don't mind other people. Sutton more than Suzie, but she's pretty awesome too. Sutton is a great big golumpogus and you can just squeeeeze him. he's sooooo cuddly and sweet!!! But when his daddy calls him, you're toast. History. He's gone....LOL, right into Richards pocket!

There is no way to guarantee first page position, but the page position on search engines can be affected by using href codes.

I'm glad I read this post out of curiosity. I don't think I would ever try to put a leash on such a small delicate animal out of common sense, but I have never seen any information on glider leashes and if someone told me it was safe and it worked I might be willing to give it a try.

Nuh uh...no leash for Wally.

I saw the post and cringed and thought, "Oh no, another misinformed newbie, let's make sure someone has already told them you shouldn't leash a glider!"

Great idea for getting people's attention and spreading the word!

I was watching Jon & Kate Plus Eight over the weekend and they were visiting the San Diego Zoo in California and one of the zoo keepers were showing their six children a sugar glider on a leash.

I admit that when I first read the title of this post my first thought was "they found a safe leash? that's kinda cool." but after reading on I realized that it wasn't so. I have seen glider leashes advertised but never dreamed of getting one. I wouldn't have a use for one anyways. The idea for a web page is a very good one. Kudos for you!!

Oakley, This is GREAT! Kudos agree
The first paragraph on your site has some type of font that is not showing up correctly on my computer. Maybe change it to something more legible?

I think that Richard Sutton & Suzie are going to come to my Sugar Social in January. Maybe we can get more video footage for you then? From lots of suggie owners too!

Keep up the good work! thanks

Yes yes! That would be great, because it would illustrate WHY a leash around the middle could rip the patagium and why a leash around the neck would choke them and why a leash with both... smile
