I have some acacia gum It was given to me along with insect eater stuff. Smells like cat treats to me. The label for the Acacia says to sprinkle it on the glider's fresh fruits. dunno I haven't used it yet though.

Gliders normally eat sap and gums in their natural habitat. One of my glider's breeders recommended it. He mixed it in as part of their staple diet.

My vet recommends getting glider-safe branches with some holes in them, stuffing mealies in the holes, and then plugging them with acacia gum so my gliders have to root through the acacia and maybe eat some to get the mealies out. This would be somewhat similar to what they'd do in a natural habitat. I have not really had the access to branches to try this yet, but I bet they'd lvoe it.

As for the Gummivore fare, I have no idea, but it sounds pretty commercialized, I'd be suspicious...I got my acacia gum from a reputable, natural source. PM me if you want and I'll dig up the link!

I just use it as an occasional enrichment activity. I have branches with holes drilled in them and I mix the gum into a paste and fill the holes. The top dries/seals over and they chew at the bark working to get at the goo. They like it for something interesting to do and it is fun to watch them work at it.

Do yall think acacia gum would be ok to supplement (only on occasion) with the BML diet?

I've heard that most Acacia gum available is either from China or cut with Chinese gum? That its not the true AU gum. Hey-ya Marz, if you see this could you explain a little on Acacia gum?

I'll see if I can find the thread, but Marz has discussed Acacia before and said something to the effect of AU gliders not eating Acacia very readily (that and there are such a huge # of Acacia species, it would be difficult to pinpoint the correct species anyway). I also recall Marz saying that AU doesn't produce Acacia gum, but the dry powder we buy is either African or Indian (often produced in China). Ok...I'll go look for it.
