Ok, Hi I'm new here and I saw on a sign for a pet store 'Sugar Gliders For Sale' so I got my parents to go in and the stench was almost unbearable, the clerk was complaining on the phone about having to work there and we went to go see the suggies and one was in way to small of a cage (not even a cubic foot! A TINYYY parakeet cage!), and the other was in a bit larger cage, and neither of them was being kept on a proper diet (the lady never got off the phone to speak with us she just kept complaining to her friend) but there was cat food in the dish!!! The Guinna pigs (six of them per cage) were be kept in a very small 18x10 cage with NO water and was standing in their own feces!!! and the rabbits the same... I cried when we got in the car, I wish we could of gotten the poor lil' suggies but the mean lady *sorry I'm venting * wanted $500.00 each! Plus mom and dad didn't know much about suggies... I feel so bad for those poor animals.... *burst into tears* Anyway is there any, some kind, of law that prohibits this awful living environment of these animals??? Please help these lil' guys!!! I don't even know if I posted this in the right place... :s

You need to contact your local Humane Society and have the Humane Officer go out and do a welfare check.

Depending on where you are...your humane officer may be a regular police officer.

I am a humane officer in my jurisdiction and we also have a county humane officer...

call them...they won't do much for the small cages because technically in a pet store they are considered temporary housing but as far as the uncleanliness...thats a big no-no!!!

I hope that pet store gets shut down!

Awful I hope you can get someone to go check them out and get those poor animals out of a bad situation. sorry you had to endure that. Bless you for caring. Good luck we will be praying for their safety.

I agree you should notify the ASPCA and your local county police - these people should be shut down and if they are only normal greys/browns $500 is entirely too much to be charging - somehow you should try to get these poor animals out of that invironment (sp) - It makes me so darn angry to hear about cruelty to any animal that can't speak for itself - good luck

I am in Indiana and if it is close to me, I will go by and take a couple of pouches and try to educate those involved. Please send me a PM to let me know what pet store you were at. I agree to call and let the authorities know, but sometimes we don't always get the results we want and if it is close to me, I can keep an eye on the situation.
