Pinkie convert…. .
Well I guess I have become a pinkie convert…. I picked up a pack of frozen pinkies… at petco or the other place… they are very small… I opened the pack and looked at them,,,, let one warm up….. and gave it to Sage….. she did not do back flips… but I can tell she loved it……she is smaller than the boys, and since there are no joeys I just worry about her….

so for a non breading female …. How often should I feed a pinkie? And do you offer pinkies to your males????

Again…. This is form a Convert, I did not think I would be one that could feed pinkies… but in dealing with the frozen ones it is not what I had envisioned and not traumatic in any way, and Sage definitely liked it….

HA! Welcome to the pinkie circle!
I always give mine a pinkie or two once or twice a month as an extra treat. I've always thought them to be rather supplimentary as opposed to being a regular component of their dietary regimen. Pinkies were given to both my male and females. Chante loves them. I feed them live... Personal preference.

Same here. I just started feeding pinkies not too long ago (about 3 months) and my preggers WF Shimmer gets 2 pinkies a month but my other guys and gals get it only once a month as a super special treat. ive got 2 girls (Nyx and Shimmers sister Lilith) who refuse to eat pinkies which is fine they just get a few extra mealies instead
I was gonna try and feed them live but I ended up keeping and raising it then giving it to my cousin.. (I just couldnt stomach it..) So I feed it frozen too...
Welcome to the club.. LOL

Once or twice a month is a good start. Don't give mealworms the night you give the pinkies though.
For my nrusing and pregnant mommas I give them one once a week (2 weeks before they are due and two weeks after), to help them out.
I like the live ones because they are not frozen and with the live ones you know that they have eaten, but the poor cries those babies give.... I stick with the frozen ones, but that is only because I can't handle the live ones crying

I have a question....my girl is nursing and at night time I give them either ground turkey or chicken breast and yogurt a couple times a week and then in the morning I feed them crickets or mealworms for their extra protein for her milk. If I give frozen pinkies, should I still give them protein at night and feed the pinkies in the morning or should the pinky completely replace other protein and feed at night? Also, is one pinky enough for two gliders or would I give one for each of them?

grats to you for at least trying in the first place, i know a lot of people have qualms with this genre of feeding...
I'm like Mikey - once or twice a month, live, my glider likes them, and i like what she likes!
Denise I don't know enough of nursing to give advice (i'm sure someone will come along) but if you do get them, i'd get one for each.

after reading up on the diet of sugar gliders on another website, and being advised that the bml and the live mice are not good to give to our gliders i have no idea anymore! i also cannot watch a live animal be killed especailly when i have little hammies, to close to home for me! right now i'm so confused as to what in the world were suppose to be feeding them

no one said you're supposed to do it.
it's a bit of a taboo so i don't think anyone necessarily suggests it to each other. But it is common knowledge that gliders enjoy it. Those who can stomach it (you don't have to watch!) may or may not choose to offer this. Some gliders won't even eat em.
It's a choice.
None of us (that i know of) use pinky's as a staple (if you do i'd like to hear more, just for curiosity's sake)
it's an occasional thing.
