OK Everyone I'm back! I know not many of you know me lol but i posted the thread with the first petition for PA titled Help legalize sugar gliders in PA! ..well first off id like to congratulate GA on their victory. Now the million dollar question, how does a state like PA get the law overturned? Esp when the game commission gives a different answer everytime they pick up the phone? Well i have an idea. Unfortunately i didnt realise the petition i had up was for most exotic animals so thank you gtivrt for getting your petition for only suggies up and running! grin (This can be found here ) If youve already signed it great and thank you. if not its only at like 76 sigs so lets go! Anyways i just wrote an email to senator bulloch in GA regarding the trouble we are having in PA and asked him for some help on how to officially get the ball rolling in PA. Hopefully with a little luck and some professional government help we can defeat the game commision! lol Lets all cross our fingers and claws! I'll be keeping an update on this post when i get an email back for all who are interested!

No problem grin I mentioned in the email this website actually in case he decides to check and see just how many ppl care even tho who dont live in the state because of relatives and everything. I have faith it will work. I actually think im going to print that petition out and circle it thru family, friends, and my neighborhood. That way when i do finally need proof not only will we have the online one with all of the caring ppl on here but also tons of locals that will back me up. Can never hurt to have tooo many signatures! lol. Thanks for the support!

clapUPDATE: No answer from the senator of GA yet. I tried Sen Arlen Spector back when i did my original post in April of 08. It seems these guys are just too busy to reply to the residents of their state who are concerned with a topic...big surprise huh? haha. Anyways i decided to take another approach. I just emailed the Local Senator whos right here in my city. If i dont get a reply within a week Im just going to have to go to his office til I get recognized! tant I'm trying my hardest for PA guys! Anyways ill keep you posted on how the outcome of the local senator works.

clap UPDATE #2: Guess what guys..the chief of staff for my local senator has already replied to my email! YAY! dance that means that she actually listened to me. Now thats the good news...and theres more kinda good news. If you would like to view a copy of the email, please PM me for it. Thank you.

Now of course when I called the PGC all they would say is "not legal" no big surprise to me. But the fact that i have this lady's attention i think can actually help. Im going to be contacting her again, letting her know that wikipedia is not a reliable source, and that i would like to take the issue another step farther to have the law changed in PA. Cross your fingers and claws!

Update #3: FINALLY i get another reply from Chief of Staff for my local senator. I don't know if this is fortunate or unfortunate but it was a really short reply. Basically after like 3 weeks of waiting and leaving her messages all she had to say is that shes still waiting for an answer and shes nudging them for one! I think this might help my case a little bit because if the PGC can't even give a senator (or his Chief of Staff) a direct answer as to why suggies are illegal then hopefully she'll see this is ridiculous! I replied right away when i got her email to say basically I want to meet with her to educate her just a little more on these critters and why they could never be harmful to PA's ecosystem and they should be legal. If anyone has links with good information (please only accurate professional info) or wants me to voice their opinion for them please PM me with it! If thats full email me at miamidolphan13@aol.com and put something in the subject so i dont just delete it. I feel good about this PA!

UPDATE #4: This reply was ALOT quicker. Ms. Ellen Kern (Chief of Staff for Senator Patrick Browne of PA) JUST got off the phone with the PGC. The reasons they gave her that sugar gliders are illegal in PA are 1. They are not native (this makes no sense neither are gerbils or guinea pigs or exotic snakes or frogs, or parrots! What about them!) 2. They are not exotic (why that matters i dont know) and 3. They are destructive to ground birds (anybody knows about this? Or have any info to argue against it?? Please send to me!) Also she said the PGC has no intention of changing the law but she is going to meet with me to give me more info about further contacts I can make to try. ALSO she included she contacted the Senate Chairman of the Games & Fisheries for his take on the matter. Shes going to keep me posted about his response! Cmon Mr. Chairman!! LOL Cmon guys lets get ready to fight the PGC any info about gliders and ground birds thats actual info (sorry i need something proven an opinion wont cut it) please send directly to me! THANKS!

I wonder if it would help if the PGC could discuss this issue with Game Commissioners from other states to find out why they legalize sugar gliders.

Thats true Linda. I'll discuss that with her. Do you know anything about any "ground birds" gliders are a danger to?

I think they need to know first of all that Sugar Gliders are not kept to be 'outdoor pets'. Secondly, A sugar glider could never survive the harsh winters there.

The only ground bird in Pa that would be at risk would be baby quail, pheasants, or turkey.

I would mention to them that the percentage of sugar gliders living in the wild in Pa and surviving would be 1:10,000.

Oh yeah absolutely because 1 of all the things that are toxic for them. They need their diet or they are dead, 2 predatory birds are EVERYWHERE in this state. Especially hawks so..dead, and 3 not only would they not survive the winter but in the summer it gets in 90's and rarely hundred's here. I think they would be dehydrated. And the only bird they would be able to take on like you said would be babies so theres no real threat. I hate the PGC lol. I'm really hoping the chairman senator for the game and fisheries is on our side

due to the history and someone backing them into a corner, chances are slim to get things changed.. but

have you contacted vicki yet? she will let you know what you need to know, and also what to be prepared for that they are going to pull out of their tushes
