Where would I go to find out about the USDA laws in my state. I had been previously told I need to have 4 breeding pairs before I need a USDA licsensed but this weekend I was told I need one even if I only have one breeding pair so I want to make sure before I purchase a female. Im in Wisconsin so any breeders in the state know the answer that would be great.

To be USDA licensed you have to have 3 females of breeding age. Doesn't have to be just gliders; cats, dogs and other USDA regulated animals also count, so if you have 3 or more intact females you need to call and get your packet to get licensed.

To get your packet, you either call USDA at 919-855-7100 or you can go on their website here: https://web01.aphis.usda.gov/ApplicationKit.nsf/application?OpenForm

Calling is faster, but it can still take many months to get your packet, and then more months waiting for them to process it frown

It used to be that you had to have a USDA license if you were breeding (regardless of #). It changed several years back so that you only have to maintain a USDA license if you have 4 or more breeding females (of any USDA regulated animal).

It is 4 or more (or MORE than 3) now.

BUT there are certain state, county and/or city laws in some areas that require you have a local license whether you are eligible to carry a USDA license or not, so make sure you know your local requirements. thumb
