I just read some information on Hind leg paralysis that says our gliders need 30 minutes of sunlight a day. Basically it said they need it just like we do to convert Vit D1 to Vit D3 which allows helps the body convert calcium to bone.
I have to admit that I’ve kept my gliders our of the sunlight because I understood it could injure their eyes. Should we be ensuring our gliders get some sunlight?

Just to add where I found this information. It's on a link on this page, just click on "Gizmo's Fight With HLP" Sugar Glider Central Info on HLP

Sugar gliders are nocturnal animals. They do not need sunlight to survive. In the wild they will not come out when the sun is shining, so there's no reason why captive gliders would need sunlight either. HLP is caused by a lack of calcium due to either a bad diet or a health problem with the glider that prevents their bodies from absorbing calcium. It has nothing to do with sunlight.

But sunlight can help them if they due have HLP. I took my girl out in the sun when she got the start of it for 5 mins a day along with the medicine the vet gave me. They even told me sunlight would help her absorb the calcuim faster. But I made sure her eyes were covered so they light did not bother her.

Someone just made a post about mushrooms saying I know for flying squirrels they say to feed them, as since they are nocturnal, it gives them the vitamin D3 to help with the uptake of calcium. Wondering if it would be the same for gliders. Anyone know???? Thanks! Mushroom PostI'm curious about this question also since it pertains to calcium and HLP
