my pair's joey should be oop this week. i am gathering necessary items for supplementing just in case. I got the liquid premixed Farnam Just Born Puppy Milk replacer w/colostrum from Petco. is this the right milk? colostrum or no colostrum best?

i have bml.

going to the vet today to get a #5 cath. and syringes.

I have read the hand feeding a joey sticky.

I am not sure about what brand of puppy milk is best. Nor do I know about the colostrum so I can't be much help with that.

However, from those I have talked to about hand raising, many don't use the cath. just the syringe. I suppose it can't hurt to have it on hand just in case.

Also, many will mix baby bml (same as bml minus the egg shells and the wheat germ) with puppy milk replacer for very young joeys then work them up to just the baby bml then to bml.

With luck, you won't need to do anything at all and your little ones will be fine and healthy!

The 'Esbilac' seems to be a recommended puppy replacer in place of Wombaroo marsupial milk replacer, and I looked up the ingredients of the puppy replacer 'Esbilac' for you and it didn't list colostrum, but here is what it does says in another section;

Puppies: All puppies should receive their mother's milk for at least 2 days, if possible. The colostrum milk gives extra nutrition and temporary immunity against some diseases.

So I would say the one with the colostrum would be closer to what is recommended....IMO. (I've used both the Esbilac and the Wombaroo and both worked fine, but never substituted the Esbilac.) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I have one joey almost 6wks oop who's mommy has two more joeys IP, he's still nursing - so I've been suplementing him with the Just Born puppy formula, which he loves - he gets all excited when he sees the syringe. I do feed with a cath, because it's easier for them to suck on, it takes a little while to get used to it, but I think it's easier on the gliders. For this current glider I'm using a #3 cath - because that's all I could find - which is very small, would work great for feeding a just out of pouch joey and is working good for now. The syringes didn't cost be hardly anything but the cath was $15.
