Abeje misses Roo so badly. She's been crying for him every night. That makes Roo cry HER then Wynn, who is in the other room, hears them and HE starts crying for ME! Poor babies! This afternoon, I put Abeje in a windowed bonding pouch and put her in the cage with Roo. Instant happiness! I changed clothes, washed my hands and put little Wynn in my bra. More instant happiness! It takes so little to make these babies so happy. mlove

I'm waiting for a friend to bring me the pipe insulation for Roo.

Do you use the pipe insulation as a liner for the ecoller or make it into an ecollar? If so what size? I need to make 2 as we are neutering this week. How do you make them.

My friend had car trouble and didn't make it to the store for me. I have looked online tho and I think the 1" will work perfectly. It will replace the ecollar. It's too wide to use for padding on the plastic. Think of it as like a garden hose made out of soft but firm foam.

Cut the insulation about 1/2" in length. The insulation will have a slit in it so all you need to do is pull it apart to slip it over the neck. You can tape it together on the outside portion to keep it together.

You will want to use 1/2" thickness for a small glider, and 3/4" for a medium sized glider.

On my way to the vet to see if Roo can have his stitches taken out and hopefully get rid of the ecollar! Wish us luck!

Well he didn't get to have his stitches out but is doing great! His cloaca is almost normal size and has a normal color. He actually gained three grams!!! He goes back wed and should get his stitches out then!

OMGosh! If energy is an indicator of health and feeling good, Roo is doing AWESOME!

He has learned how to climb!

In and out of the hosp cage (don't worry, I'm right here when it's not zipped), onto my lap, up my arm, across my chest, on my head, behind my back, tries desperately to climb into my shirt and has climbed up every 'obstacle' I've put 'in his way'. Yeah, right. With the exception of not fitting in my bra, he's like a furry ball, bouncing everywhere! All in an ecollar! For the most part, he's being held by me. I'm learning real fast, how to do just about everything one-handed! I've been able to back off on the sub-q in frequency and amount. I'm actually not even sure he still needs it but I know it's safe to give him a maintenance dose and how much that is, based on his size.

He's decided he wants to eat every two hours. On his own!!! This morning, when I took his ecollar off, he immediately marked me with his head, nyitched, clicked and gave me kisses! First time in six days!!! Tears of joy!!!

He and Abeje still bark and nyitch for each other most of the night, which still incites Wynn to nyitch for me. So I've been giving extra attention to Roo & Abeje, then changing clothes, washing my hands/arms/face and playing with Wynn. Can you say sleep deprived? LOL! I don't mind tho. Seeing their happy little faces makes it worth it.
mlove

Question......

There's a good chance Roo will get his pom removal stitches out tomorrow. If he does, when is it considered safe to put him and Abeje back together? Will he be healed enough to go without the ecollar or should he wear it for another day or two? His cloaca looks perfect, no swelling, no redness, no fever and the penis is staying in. He's poohing and peeing just fine. I sub-q'd him twice today but haven't done so this evening because he's definitely not dehydrated and I don't want to give him too much sub-q. I know too much can be dangerous.

If he isn't bothering the surgical site and his cage mates aren't bothering it then there isn't any reason for a collar or for him to not get to be with his cagemates. I know Val doesn't keep her gliders seperated post-neuter if there isn't any signs of SM or cagemates overgrooming the site.

With Roo, you will just have to watch him and see how he does without the collar. Remember, he may still have some glue that he will want to groom off. Don't let him get carried away with it. I would give him atleast one day out of the ecollar to see how he does before putting him back with his mate. And then watch HER very closely that she doesn't groom his belly (or overly groom it).

I'm so THRILLED to hear he is doing so well. You have done GREAT!

I think the collasate may dissolve glue because I can see very little of it and since it's blue, I'd think I would be able to see it better. The collasate made a hard covering over it tho, and it looks dark, so I may just not be able to see the glue very well.

Each time I let him out of the ecollar, he ends up diving for his belly sooner or later. When I look at his incision, I see a red line but, just a line. No swelling or spreading redness, as far as I can see. Like I said, the collasate makes it a little dark to see.

P.S. The vet trimmed away some hair around his cloaca and pom removal site. She just clipped it with scissors, no shaving. It hasn't bothered him around the cloaca but it was clipped shorter around the other site. Will this possibly bother him? Would keeping collasate on it maybe help it heal even more after the stitches are removed?
Should I wipe the collasate off or wait and let the vet do it tomorrow? Will she need to put him under to remove these stitches? When she removed the purse stitches, she didn't put him under. She just had me hold him with his bum up in the air. Wish I could have had a pic of THAT! LOL! Sorry, Roo!

Thru all the worry and stress, there have still been a couple of things about this to make me laugh. One being his bum in the air, the other being the lip smacking with the organic peanut butter. roflmao Oh yeah, another thing is him taking his frustration out on mommy by 'seriously' biting. Uh, huh. Yeah, sure, Roo, my fierce little boy. Leaves a tiny indention but that's all. But the look on his face as he looks for human skin to plunder, and when he actually has it in his mouth, is priceless. He's such a sweet baby, I don't think he'd ever break the skin!

I too, and so thrilled beyond words, that he has done so well. Without the help and support of you all, I hate to think of how this would have turned out. I know he's still not out of the woods yet but I think by this weekend, he'll be back with Abeje, him running on the inside of the stealth, her running on the outside!

Thank you, Josephine. I try to take care of my babies as best I can. I do know a lot but I don't know everything and I tend to get nervous in new situations. I guess it just makes me feel better to get reassurance that I am doing the right thing.

We'll be leaving for the vet in 15 minutes. Wish Roo luck that he gets his stitches out!

Roo still has his stitches. :-( My vet says she thinks it would be better to leave them in and re-check him on Monday. She said the site looks great but she can see where the edges aren't completely healed. So, we'll wait, wear the ecollar (or something as good) until next Monday. I'm going to work on his neuter jacket and see if I can get it to work.

It's something I've been trying to make for a long time now. I'm still having issues with it but when I get it perfected, I'll be sure to post pictures/video! I'm thisclose to getting it the way I want it!

Roo just broke my heart. He's still having an issue with dehydration so I'm sub-q-ing every day, per vet orders. I got ready to sub-q him tonight, filling the syringes with fluid, while he was sitting on my lap. The next thing I know, he takes off and runs away from me, trying desperately to get into his hosp cage, which has fleece covering it. When he realized he couldn't get in, he started frantically climbing it! His body language told me, he knew what was going to happen and that MOMMY was the one doing it to him! I can't tell you how HARD it was for me to sub-q him anyway! I'm sitting here, holding him against my chest so he can hear my heartbeat. I'm trying hard not to cry but failing. My poor baby! What must he think of me???
