Alright, so I have had this resuce for a few weeks now, and he took to me right away. He is still housed by himself, he has passed two fecal floats and smears and his wellness exams. At his last appt. I asked the vet, since I've never seen any of the boys do it, even with any joeys. But when Jayden sleeps, he curls in a ball, and suckles his penis like a child would do a thumb. The vet said that some gliders will do this, and it is alright. But I just wanted to make sure and ask here. Also, when I first picked him up, he was sleeping in a glass porcoline decoration on reptile litter. I obviously cleaned it out, and cleaned him up as he was covered in it, and gave him a pouch to sleep in right away, whihc he did do. But the last two nights, when I get home from work, he is alseep under his fleece floor liner and not in his pouch. Last night, I tried to keep his branches on all four corners so he wouldn't go beneith his liner and sleep in his normal pouch. But when I got home today he was under there again. Never had a glider that wanted to sleep anywhere but in a pouch or my bra.

Now that all my children are older ( I had my own liter, literately) I am getting back into gliders again.

I would say that since he has been used to sleeping without a pouch for however long, chances are since this is new to him it's going to take him time to adjust to his new surroundings. I would let him sleep where he feels the most comfortable for now. Eventually you can slowly try and introduce him with putting a couple of his favorite treats in it to give him a chance to feel that it's safe for him. There are many gliders who refuse to sleep in pouches because they can not see what's going on around them, so they need to be where they can see things to feel secure. Hopefully your new little fella will start to trust his new home. Good Luck!

What about his suckling? Any thoughts? Something I need to be concerned about?

Have never heard of the suckling behaviour...sorry.
Our rescue also slept on the bottom of the cage for about 2 weeks and then moved into his hammock.

Put a pouch on the floor of the cage, you may be able to slowly convince him that pouches are good.

I did do that the other day. At first he slept in the pouch, but it was just out of the blue he started sleeping under his house lining. Apperently, when I leave for work, he wakes my husband up to come and play too. HAHA juyst found that out yesterday. Barks like crazy after I leave.
