Just an update: We took Gizzie to the local vet today who consulted with his vet in the city. They are concerned that he is in pain, and that is the reason why he does not want to eat. They prescribed Metacam for the pain. They also prescribed Protexin to restore the balances in his digestive tract. Of this we really have to use very little. Bozeman just gave him some HPW, about 1ml, then he turns his head away and really try to dive away from the syringe in his pocket. Please pray for my baby, he really looks ill...

You all are saying I am being a good mommy....you all are wrong, I have been a terrible mom to Giz!
Yes I get up every hour, I feed him to make sure he gets nutrition, I give rehidrate, medication, love and much more..BUT, I have let this dilemma get me down (under). I should not have let that happen, I got carried away with poor Giz and I hate to see him this way and and and. Enough is enough, I will be positive from this moment forward, I will motivate him, I will believe, and combined with all the physical care I give him.....Now that will be a good mommy. Don't ya all agree?

After all, Giz was a perfect example of positive companionship, kissing my tears while he is the one who is not feeling well! He taught me something!

Liezl, please do not beat yourself up over this. It is obvious that you have given this little guy so much love and attention...the two of you have a very special relationship.
I hope the Metacam will relieve some of his pain.

Last night we showered Gizzie with lots of positive energy. He was hyper, as usual, this was before we administered the pain meds (Metacam). We had a great time and he glided about 5 times, which he did not do for the past week. So thumbs up for that. However, he is still not interested in eating. But after the pain medication, he had 1/2 of his yoghurt and 2 pieces of fruit all by himself. He did not eat his HPW, but ate 4 pieces of vegetables. I am not sure if this is due to the pain medication. Another difference I noticed today, was the following: every hour or two when I give Gizzie his HPW/Rehydrate mix, he will struggle less than yesterday and when I ask him nicely ("Just a little bit") he opens his mouth for mom to give it. How sweet and cooperative. I was reading another post on GC about bacteria and dust and humidity. This made me wonder. There is a LOT of dust here at the moment. We haven't had any rain here to clear the dust and it is very dry. Another thing, due to the climate control (aircon) in the house, our vet suggested we have a humidifier in our room (water, nothing scented) to prevent the ears of our boy's getting dried-out/crisp. Is it possible that the draught/dust/humidifier can have anything to do with Gizmo's illness? His feacal's were tested and retested and no trace of any bacteria was found. Just some thoughts.... Any comment will be appreciated.

Gizzie is still reluctant to eat his food. He did not touch his fruit, but ate 3 corn pits. Early this morning, Gizzie ate a little bit of his HPW mixed with youghurt. Tonight is also the last time he will get antibiotics and Metacam. Then we will see how it goes. We do make sure that he drinks Rehydrate every few hours to prevent dehydration. Spoke to the vet's assistant earlier today - I honestly think they are not sure what is wrong with him and are waiting to see what happens... Not the way I would like it to be as I would appreciate some concrete answers. We keep on praying for Gizzie.

Hi All Giz is finally perking up! Last night I still had to force feed him, and I left some HPW in his cage, mixed with fruit and veg relish like every other night, I set the alarm for every hour like all the other nights and at 3am I noticed that he ate for the first time all by himself!!!!! ( although it was only 10ml of the mix) Needless to say me and hubby was up celebrating this wonderful achievement of Giz 3am in the morning. Well done Gizzy!! And better yet, to my astonishment he took several pieces of fruit during the course of the day without turning his head. His eyes are bright again, ears perked up, and he is the little "Dennis the menace" he used to be. My boy is back!!!! Will have to get him a pressy! He has been so brave during all of this. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, both Gizzies vet and us did not think that he will make it through this, but he did it. He lost a few grams but will be getting those back in no time I am sure. LSardou, thank you for urging me to be positive around Giz, it made a huge difference! And then off course Wendi, your emails and support as a friend on the other side of the world kept me going, thank you. Peggy, you and Dr Tristan really are always willing to jump in and help, you make a wonderful team! Sweet Gizmo, I pray you eat and get well for mommy! Mommy, hang in there. You're doing a wonderful job! This was the turning point, I think Gizzie listened to this prayer. Again thank you to all of you!!!!

These last 4 posts literally brought tears of joy to my eyes!
I can't begin to express my joy to hear how remarkably well Gizzy is doing. And the sweetest acknowledgment to his Gizmogirl by Bozeman is truly an awesome gesture and shows why Gizmo is doing so well. The Love that you both hold towards each other in addition to your beautiful babies shines strong through your posts.
Thank you for being such remarkable parents to your babies!

I too have tears of joys in my eyes. That is AWESOME news. I have sent an email over to Tim telling him your boy is turning around for the best. Leizl, really, if your vet EVER wants to call Tim his clinic is a 24 hour ER vet clinic and even though he may not be there in the middle of the night, I can assure you if they have a call come in from South Africa they will contact him immediately and he will surely call you back. Cant wait to see some pics of this ole kiddo. Give him an extra bit of loving for me and I pray the updates keep getting better and better.

GIZMO IS DOING EXCEPTIONALLY WELL!! He is eating 3/4 of what he usually had for one night and weighs a full 72grams. He is as silly as can be in the evenings, and I just love it! I am sorry that I did not update, I assisted the South African Police Service in a criminal and drug related issue which kept me very busy.
