Anyone taking in a "rescue or rehomed" glider needs to ask the person they are getting it from WHERE the glider originated and get any documents or receipts that the person has on the glider. If it is only verbally said, then the person taking in the glider needs to document it for the glider's records. While it might not seem important for that one glider, if the information was consolidated, we might find a pattern of "sales" and areas we need to concentrait the efforts. We know that KC has a history with " mill breeders/brokers". Wichita did to but thanks again Linda! Florida has a history too. We know those areas have targets on them. But there are so many other areas that (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets is now going to. Areas where they think WE won't be.

Yes, they are figuring out that they have saturated the market in specific areas and are moving on "to greener pastures". The thing is, once OUR work moves in on them in new areas and the saturation and "knowledge" saps out of the areas mentioned like FL and KC, then (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets comes back... they are trying to stay one step ahead which is why we feel it is so important to continue to educate the public about gliders in the areas where (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets previously HAS been, is NOT, and MAY BE. There are plenty of glider gatherings that happen... SGA being the largest, of course. But not everyone can afford to go, has the time to go, or can go that far. A meeting of the minds in a public forum seems like a good idea except that (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets sends sies to read what we are planning so they can continue to stay ahead of the game. The best defense is a good offense IMO. What we need is to spread the word- try to get more (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets victims to report their findings to the MBP and have them continue to complie records for use in stopin the mills... have SESG continue to compile stories to warn the public about things (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets has done... have S.P.I.N. continue to do gldier education and provide the materials to do so with to glider owners everywhere so tat the education can be wide spread... and have all of these organizations and the glider community as a whole work together on letter writing and law change lobbying to make it harder for class B brokers like (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets to continue to victimize the public AND so many gliders.

Joe said even though he "hates gliders" (lier) he will work the booth with me at the KC Expo. Cescha has offered too and I believe we can get more to help the KC Expo. If not, Joe and I will work it alone if we have to. So if TGI gets it set up on their end, the booth WILL be manned for the show. Yup, count me in

One thing that may or may not have any bearing but... No one likes to be thought of as a "victim". The word victim has such a stigma on it as if the person injured is some how stupid or vunerable. While most of the impulse buyers may be vunerable (who could resist these cute babies), most are not stupid. They are just grossly misinformed. I think that perhaps the more we use the term victim, the more (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets buyers are hessitant to speak up/post/share their info. While I do believe MOST of those that buy from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets are victims of (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets's cruel sales tactics, perhaps the use of the term "victim" is to much of a repellant?

The victim no matter what here is the sugar gliders. Their owners are the advocates of their gliders. No owner should consider themselves a victim, their glider is. No owner should let Perfect Pocket Pets or any mill breeder use scare tactics to keep them quiet, cause thats all they are scare tactics.

OH!!!! Found this out about the KC Pet Expo! Non-profit, incorporated Rescue Groups or Breed Clubs 10’ X 10’ exhibit space No charge* 10’ X 20’ exhibit space No charge* SOOOOOOOOO IF TGI will sponser us (I am a member I think) then there will be NO CHARGE FOR THE BOOTH! That means just our time and displays! I submitted the application, so if they still have room for us - TGI will sponsor the expo! Thanks Teresa!

Sorry for not contributing to this thread so far, I've been OOC this weekend with other obligations.
Thank you Eddie, for starting this!!!
I agree 100% with all of us working together as a team! The MBP's motto - 'Together We Can Make a Difference'
Each of us have our own unique levels of knowledge, experience, ideas, and goals towards making a difference in accomplishing this mission.
When we started the MBP web site, we choose to have it as a discussion forum so that we all could have a place where we could share our ideas, make plans, and organize projects as a 'team'. A place for reference material, links, listings of current selling locations, updates, and stories.
Other groups who are working such as S.P.I.N, & TGI, are doing a fantastic job with all their efforts! We all need to combine our efforts in order to become a stronger group to accomplish our goal.
We need everyone to become involved. Each person that helps, whether it's for a day, or longer, is another link to strengthen our chain.

I have seen people advertise warnings & such on craigslist about scams & such to beware of. Would we be able to post warning & info ads on there regarding getting gliders from these sources(not have to name actual companies just home shows, pet shows, pet stores) & giving real info regarding gliders as pets?
How about other web ad venues? Hoobly, Kijiji?

Thank you Linda.
I will check out the rules thoroughly & get started posting info ads on CL and all others in my area. Maybe, just maybe I can get the info across to one person.

Good luck with this. I wish the information had been in my area. CCW said they are planning on coming back to SD next summer. I will watch for them here.

Tina, where did you see them last time and I might be able to track down some possible info for you. Was it a home show? Pet expo? ??
WOW over $800! That's insane! I'd rather just go for the $10 to get in and pass out fliers.

And if they frown on fliers (some of them do) you can order smaller pocket cards from S.P.I.N. or if they only don't ant fliers passed out inside, you can get permission from the site owners to put fliers on windshields in the parking lot.

I contacted the Kansas City Home Show to get a spot ~ silly me, I didn't look at the dates. It ended yesterday!
There may be an opportunity for the next show, so we'll see what we can do for that one; it's in February in Kansas City, MO. They are not reserving spaces for community service organizations at this time, so we'll see!

you can get permission from the site owners to put fliers on windshields in the parking lot. In many states, this can be considered vandolism and in addition, every flier that ends up on the ground the person/organization passing them out can be charged with littering! I would not recommend putting them on cars. It is also illegal (federal law) to put things in people's mail boxes. The only thing that can go in a US Mail box is US Mail! It has to have postage and have been processed through the post office.

Wow! 10 glider sales, and that was slow for him. I haven't sold 10 gliders in a year! Too bad we weren't there, that would be 10 new owners we could have properly educated.
On a positive note, I just received confirmation of our space at the Kansas City Pet Expo! Thanks Dancing for "hooking us up" and for volunteering to work the booth! Guys - she's gonna need some help, so, anyone wanting to make a difference in Kansas City, MO? The expo will be April 17-18, 2010.

I found out about sugar gliders when I was 7 years old. A pet shop got a pair in. There never carried them there before and they never had another pair after that. That was how I heard about them. It wasn't until several years later (when we got internet) that I started researching them online. This was one of the first sites I came across. I found out fast that buying from flea markets and pet shops was bad, but that same idea applies to ALL animals! Its not hard to understand why. And it wasn't until several years after that that I actually owned gliders. Being on this board for many years before having gliders has helped me avoid many of the pitfalls that some of these flea market buyers have went through. But I don't claim to be perfect or know everything. Some things you only know from direct experience. However, I don't have any bad experiences to come forward with about mill breeders because I have been fortunate enough not to have dealt with any. If in the future I do come in contact with one I will come forward.
