I am a newbie. We picked up KC-neutered male on 10/11 was 15wks and he already very stuck on me and my boyfriend. Although, his daughter,(almost 10) has had him jumping on her face repeatedly. He only did that to my boyfriend and I on his first night here. Is it an aggressive thing?---She does chase him around alot, and has been told to back off and let him run around a bit. She initially tried to restrain him when she'd get a hold of him, but has stopped doing that. Also he tends to pee repeatedly on the men around, as opposed to me or any females that handle him. Is that a male dominance or personality thing? Still trying to figure out the basics...Thanks

Face hugs mean he loves you! My male is neutered but he likes to leave a little pee trail around my shoulders. It's one of the ways he marks me as part of the colony. He also scrunches down on my shoulder and rubs his chest back and forth, back and forth, with that scent gland. I know it's gross but yeah...pee is love too. sounds to me like he's chosen your boyfriend as his main handler, but he'll bond to both of you given time.

The face hugging is a HUGE sign of trust! Gliders are prey animals, and they KNOW that your mouth and eyes are on your face. So for him to voluntarily get so close to your mouth shows a HUGE amount of trust.

Just be careful not to get a nail in the eyeball! Ouch! I've been lucky and have only gotten scratches on my face from face hugs but I have heard that if they get you in the eye it's pretty painful. My husband and I joke around about getting goggles to wear! We may actually end up doing it! LoL! If you think the pee is bad just wait until you get skunked! LoL!

Sometimes if they get scared or really excited they emit this white stuff that stinks like a skunk. It looks like white pee but it's not pee. It's pretty gross. Luckily the smell usually fades and goes away within a minute or so. I was just skunked today in the tent when one of my furrbutts got overly excited that it was playtime! I thought I was going to pass out from the smell in such a small space! Yuckie!!!

They both do it. Abeje is so timid, she'll only let me handle her. If someone gets too close to me while I'm holding her, she'll "skunk" out of fear. It's not so bad. It doesn't hang around like skunk stink. Actually, I kinda like the smell now. Yeah, I've got glideritis real bad! LOL!

Thanks fo all the info...I have had KC, get close up on my shoulder and neck, and actually lick my cheek and lips. So I do feel he trusts me and has bonded quite a bit with me. I am home with him primarily, and prep his foods and feed him. He's even gone for my eyes and eyebrow while on my shoulder. But, he only jumped mine and my boyfriend's face the 1st day we had him, one after the other. Therefore, I thought it was a early domination thing. My boyfriend's daughter, has tried to restrain and control him since the begining. He mostly runs and hides from her. But, when he does jump to her, he jumps on her face. Therefore, I thought it was an offensive thing. In fact,KC usually will come out of hiding and come to me 1st, except when my step-daughter was after him for a half hr and then she left the room, I went to get him out behind the bookcase, and he instantly crabbed at me, then after he smelled me--he climbed right on me. We are still trying to get her to be less aggressive with crowding KC. All this made me think the face jumping was like a rebellious thing. But I guess I'll listen to the majority---Face Hugs--Huh?? OK

He will bond with everyone in the family. He will probably have his favorite human that he is the closest to. Usually that's the person that spends the most time with him and feeds him etc. Give him licky treats from your fingers. That helps with the bonding process. You can use yogurt, applesauce, or even a little honey. I used a lot of licky treats when I was first bonding with each of my gliders. I would deffinitly tell your stepdaughter to try and be more gentle with him. I'm sure she doesn't want to hurt him.

I haven't gotten a face hug yet, so I'm a little jealous. I definitely get my fair share of pee though!

Children can be hard on animals. I'm sure you've talked to her, have you given her a comparison between their relative sizes? Maybe if you tell her KC sees her as big as King Kong and that she can pet and love on him, but she needs to move slowly then it will help. My boyfriend's daughter is almost 3 and very curious with my pair. I let her do things with me for the gliders, like making their dinner plates, or giving out treats. She even tells me now "Not on the face" about petting them. She got a facehug of her own last week from my boy - it was WAY cute but she squealed like the devil was on her! Most of the time she minds me and is soft and quiet with them, when she isn't I put them up in their cage and tell her no, you scared them, which usually she won't need another reminder the rest of the weekend.
