When I make my HPW I usually use the applesauce modification, substitute 1/2 of the honey with applesauce. I have a large papaya here and was wondering if it would make a lot of difference to use papaya instead of applesauce. I know the papaya has a better ca:ph ratio than most fruits too, and I had heard about the soy base in the HPW powder possibly affecting calcium absorption...although if that's the case I don't know that the better calcium ratio would make much of a difference. Just wondering if I could substitute the applesauce for pureed papaya, really. My crew loves papaya.

Hmmmmmmmm. You know, that sounds like a good substitute to me. I'd like to know what more experienced folks think about it but I'd think it would work better than the applesauce.

That's what I was thinking, Connie. I'm hoping Peggy might stumble upon this post and give us her opinion.

Beth, you could probably email Peggy and ask her.

Hi Ya Beth....*As I come stumbling in* grin

I have never had an issue with the soy base causing calcium problems. As you know I have blood work and xrays done on different gliders at different times, and so far so good on my end Thank God.

As for substituting the papaya, well, I have never been one to agree with the substituting the honey for applesauce in the first place. I would suggest to give your gliders papaya on the side with the fruit.

If you already do the substitution, I would have to say to contact Alicia for that one since she has been subbing her honey for applesauce for quite some time with no problems. thumb
