A gal who recently purchased gliders from our dear friends at (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets sent me this message: "She is a female she has a pouch(anna) she is 7 mo and i also have a male(buzz) he is 1 3/4 that is not neutered yea when his parts came out i just about cut them off thinking it was a worms..... and she did come from Pocket Pets at the state fair and she was 12 weeks and largest one they had as they had a hard time finding her a home as she was also quite cranky.. she is wonderful now and that vet i seen said that she was the tames they had ever seen in their office this year. that suprized me as she is a handful but she is with me 18 hours a day and she has learned to be social. She has not had any more come out and i gave her the medication i also sent a picture to Virgil at Pocket Pets they were going to rresearch it. and he e-mailed me back and asked permission to speak with the vet that treated her as they had never seen this before.... and i said of course. she is not acting sick. the day i gave her the med she seemed a bit more tired but is doing fine now. she has normal bowels movements when i wipe her and she is doing great with urinating. she is eating. i have the picture on my cell phone i can send it to you i i check if i can e-mail it .. " Here is the photo she sent me. Anyone? http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k117/Snoopy86406/annanematoad.jpg

That looks like a tapeworm. More PROOF that (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets sells sick gliders!

That looks like a tapeworm. More PROOF that PPP sells sick gliders! I know. I have never seen this before in almost 13 years, thank goodness. It's gross.

Have her get all the documention from her vet and send to the mill breeder Project. This is exactly the type of thing they need.

oh how Gross...nightmares now.... what is wrong with these (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets people? It just frustrates me so bad... correct me if I am wrong, I read they dont breed but they are brokers??? is that true? so how can we find out how they get their gliders to sell? how do we STOP this?! sorry just so sad when I see and hear this stuff. I know if we push proper education we can save some gliders. But sometimes its overwhelming.

She needs to get her re-checked and stay on top of this with meds as she could have eggs inside her that will hatch again. Poor baby!

Depending on the type of worm it is (if it is a worm) it can spread to humans and other pets in the household. I do dog rescue and in cases where a dog comes in that has worms, the quarantine starts. Worms can be a nightmare if not treated properly and if the house is not cleaned properly the worm cycle will continue. There is a GREAT cleaning product that not only cleans but kills diseases as well. It's called A-33. Hospitals and vet clinics use it. I always make sure I have some. When the swine flu was real bad in our area I cleaned the house with A-33 and NONE of us got sick. My husband is a director at a hospital, I go on pet therapy visits 2-5 times a week at nursing homes and preschool, etc... so the exposure to germs was there. Please let this lady know that she not only needs to treat her glider (a different vet would be best) but she needs to totally disenfect EVERYTHING that the glider has been in contact with. It's a lot of work (trust me I know) but well worth it.

Linda, I will. You are her best hope of getting the information out there to the public. I'm still not sure where she lives, but maybe you know of a better vet that can help her. Merry Christmas.

Ok. I found out she lives in Altoona, IA. I will start investigating, but if any of you know of a good vet there. I will send her the list of vets, but I only think it covers the Des Moines area. Nevermind. Altoona is not far from Des Moines. 16 mins. We are covered.
