As I am a mechanical idiot (and am married to one, too!) I'm hoping someone on here can help. We travel a good bit, much of it driving. We will be making our next trip to see my in-laws the beginning of May and will be introducing our new baby! As it stands, we do not have a travel cage so that Bandit can have his time and space while we're there. Is there anyone out there who has made one of the larger mesh travel cages (with the pvc inside)or has a friend or spouse that's made one, and would be willing to make another for a price? I'd need it before May 8th. Thanks for any help y'all can give!

I would suggest a 65 gallon reptarium. They break down pretty small yet they give plenty of room for a travel cage. It is a good size for two gliders for a travel cage. And depending on your vehicle, might even fit in your back seat fully assembled.

Hmmmm, sounds interesting. Don't know that I've seen one like that around here - is this something I'd have to buy online? And is there a way to put toys, etc. in there? We've got a Dodge Journey so space is NOT an issue, we could definitely keep it fully assembled.

This is where I saw them but I really was hoping to have one made. It's sad, I know - I'm completely pathetic about building anything and I'd be scared to see the final product!!! lol

Many vendors, myself included, sell rept gear for the reptariums. This allows for you to hang pouches, water bottle and toys. The floor space in a 65 gallon reptarium is plenty big for a wheel and a toy box or floor toy.

Reptariums are much easier to clean than the pop up dog kennels, IMO.

DCMuffin, I went to Wal-Mart to get one of those pop-up kennels as soon as I saw them on here. Less than $29 and it looks like it'll be nice and big when I take them somewhere. I'll probably also pick up some PVC pipe so I can set up a little climbing/hanging space for them and mount a water bottle and food dish. Only drawback is that it's made in China ...

I like Dancing really recommend the 65G rept. I use it for travel and even without rept gear you can decorate it pretty decently and even put the wheel in there. It is extremely easy to clean.

Val - sorry I didn't respond, I missed your posting! Thanks for the information - I suppose I need to find one online, unless any of you know which places carry them in stores!

I got the pop up dog kennels from walmart for $26. They work really well and they fold down small and flat for easy storage.

Walmart & Meijer do carry the pop up kennels here in Michigan and I have them in 2 sizes. I have made a pvc frame to fit inside each of them and it works out very well. There are other type dog carriers you can also use as well as a rept. I have used each type sucessfully, so it's just a matter of what you perfer and can afford.

I agree, I've had both and I love my 65 gallons, but I have the regular frames on these. I use the custom PVC frame on my 175 gallons.

Why are the rept easier to clean? What's so different about them?

The screen can be taken apart from the poles and put in the washing machine.

So there are poles already inside so the pvc isn't necessary? Hmmmmm, did I miss that in an earlier post? I must have. I like the sound of the rept...

If you order a 65 gallon reptarium, it will come with the poles and the mesh screen cover. All you have to do is throw in your wheel and linens and such. Rept gear will slide over the poles as you put it together and will have loops for hanging all of your pouches and toys and such. My rept gear also comes with a fleece floor covering for the bottom (to catch all the mess). When you are finished, you take it all apart, put the rept gear and the screen cover in the washing machine and wipe down the poles. Clean up is a breeze.

I love my pop up kennel....I take it outside and hose it off, little soap and water and let dry..super easy in summer...just set it in the sun...easy peasy...

Also if folds up into a circle that fits right in my suitcase so no extra bag to carry. It just pops open and is ready to go, no assembly.. and you don't have to worry about forgetting to grab your frame, which I have seen happen first hand to some when traveling.

Good luck on your decision.
