I did a rescue not long ago. The joey has a weird temperment which is understandable, but is extemely clostrophobic. She is really panicky if I use a regular sleeping pouch because she can't see out of it when she is laying down. I can't get her into a bonding pouch either. I went to clean out her cage yesterday, so I put her and her perferred bed into a travel cage. She totally freaked out! She ached her back, the hair on her tail and back stood on end, and she started to attack it! I tried to open the door to let her out, but she tried to attack me! I called my daughter and decided to take the bite just to open the door. My 13-year-old daughter is the only one who can calm or even handle this glider. My daughter has even trained this glider like a puppy. The glider responds to "Jump," "down," "Up-a" (my daughter uses this to ask the glider to climb into her hand.), and 2 other commands. This glider has only been here for a couple of weeks. My daughter is now trying to teach the glider that I am OK. Any suggestions?

My thor is not that extreme but he is clostrophobic. Long story short he knows how to get out of bonding pouching, and if he cant unzip he will work his way to chew a hole in them or chew through the mesh. He has choose 2 closed pouches to sleep in but the moment you even act like your going to close it he freaks.

Maybe she has something happened to her with her old people like them forceing her into a pouch? Like getting her tail zipped in the zipper, getting smashed in the pouch.

If this is the case then you may really have to work with her. Months even, you have to gain her trust in order for her to trust that you are not going to hurt her.

Hopefully someone else can come along with better advice.

Thanks for letting me knot that I'm not alone. Right now, I have a bra pouch in her cage because it is really shallow. I am trying to figure a new design to make for her, but she is so finicky! I think I am going to try to make a hammock-type thing with a little cup-shaped dip in it. The bra pouch won't last her very long at the rate she chews and scratches.

Amazingly enough Thor has choosen an apple pouch. The hole is big enough for me to put my big fist in and small enogh to make him feel secure. However I get bit when I even come near the hole. Pouch protective too! Needless to say lots of treats and a fluffy glider.

lol. At least she will let me in the same room now. Before, when my daughter had her out, if I came into the room and approached them, she would have a fit. My daughter is acting very mature for her age and really working hard to introduce the glider to me. I never thought I'd be taking advice from a child before, but she understands Jillian better than anyone else, so I listen.

I am still open to any suggestions as to how I can get this little girl into a bonding pouch or any other way that I may be able to wear her. Please keep suggestions comming!

with our second joey we got, she hated the pouch. I put her in she would flip out, she would push the zipper with her nose to get out. Well, I wanted her in there so I could wear the pouch with her during the day. So I put her in but did not zip it. I sat there with it open, telling her it was ok and giving her some licky treats and of course some love. Slowly I stated closing it and just kept petting her through the outside. Little bit each day. I also started out with only putting her in there for a few minutes while doing that stuff and increasing length of time in the pouch. She is fine in there now. I can walk around with her for hours. Since she loves your daughter so much, you may want her there too for help keeping her calm and convincing her the pouch and you are ok.
Hope it helps some. May take some time of her just coming right out, but it still a step towards teaching her it's ok and she can come back out if she wants.

One of my gliders Marley use to hate to be in a pouch and I though that she was pouch protective because of the way she acted. Any time I put her in the bonding pouch she would crab like crazy and attack the sides of the pouch. Turns out she was just scared because she was alone. Once I introduced her to her cage mate Sully she doesn't mind getting in the pouch at all and will not crab. One thing that I did before I knew this was I would put the bonding pouch in the cage for her to sleep in and the next day I would take the pouch out with her in it and just zip it up and go about my business.

Maybe put the bonding pouch in her cage so she can get used to it and it will smell like her that way it won't be completely unknown to her
