Hey,
My fam and I will be moving and the house dimmension are not big enuff for the cage... but there is a newly made shed in the yard that is big enuff to pu the cage and supplys! umm lemme describe wut we wuld build i it to make it homier for my gliders, well u wuld walk in an the there would b bout 3-4 foot deep place to store stuf like supplies an stuff and then for safety there wuld be another tightly sealed door that u wuld walk in to and then there wuld be the cage and sum open space to play wit them. It would b heated and safety checked on a regular basic for drafts and stuf, I was thinking of lining the side of the room with hay or sum type of insulant to keep drafts out. Is this okay? does it sound like there r any other safety precautions I should take? Wut type of insulant is safe? And wut is the hottest temp gliders can b in? cuz i wuz wonderin in the summer if it got pretty hot how would i cool them off? any help is appreciated the big move is coming up an I am a bit nervous!!
r'ite thanx!!

Keep in mind as I'm rambling here, taht I am a super paranoid mother to my kids and pets alike! The thought of them in a shed makes me feel nervous. First if they get out they would be able to find their way outside much easier than if they were in the house. It will be very hard to control the temperature. I would be afriad you would have a bug problem. Really I think the biggest thing is that I would be so scared they would get out, especially when you get them out to play or when you are cleaning cages. Mistakes are so easy to make, I've left cages open before but luckily in the house there are only so many places they could go. Also I would think they would like inside much better because they can hear you and be part of the family. Just my two cents. Let us know what you decide. Good luck on the move!

well, if the shed is secured, with heat and a/c, this could be plausable. I find it highly unlikely that you could regulate the temperature well enough for temperate climate animals though. The risk of bugs, as afor mentioned; water leaks, and overheating/freezing would scare me. Hay can cause dust problems (not to mention those tiny splinters that fester), and even more it can be a fire hazard. As with news paper. I'm sure you love your sugars, so I would look into treated insulation/drywall. Also, check into a floor that will not absorb odor, and is easily cleaned. Probably a linolium type thing. Wood holds to much odor/bacteria. You can also look into a window a/c unit that regulated at a comfy 68-72 degree temp. i'm not sure what would be safe for heat for them.

My main concern, is "out of site, out of mind." You won't forget to see them and play with them everynight I'm sure.

Hopefully someone will come along who has their own self contained glider houses. I know there are a couple people.

[:"green"]You would definitely have to insulate the shed walls & roof to be able to maintain a moderate temperature range for them. As aforementioned, hay or newspapers would really not be very good. Commercial housing insulation would be the best option, then covered with paneling or drywall. If there is not a window in the shed, one should be installed so that the gliders are not constantly in the dark. They need to have a definite night & day cycle that cannot adequately be provided by electric lighting. Installing a window a/c unit and a good baseboard heater would be good options. You should probably have a professional heating & cooling company come out & evaluate the shed so that you know what the best options are for regulating the temperature. Needless to say, all of this could get to be quite expensive in a hurry. If you can find any way to squeeze them into a corner of your home that would really be the best option.
Enjoy your new home!
