LOL I gave mine each a skinless wing because we had church's lastnight. They scoffed at it and threw it to the bottom of the cage! They were still there an hour later.... One of my girls did a tail dance at one, while Fuzzy (even though neutered) decided to tell it who was boss and do his shakey butt marking dance on his, the other cage was like "pffft! You are one crazy human if you think I am going to touch that thing!" FAIL!

I know it's safe to give pet rats chicken bones. I used to give my 5 boys a whole rotisserie carcass after we were done with it. The reason is they're mouths are so small and they take such small bites the bones don't get the chance to splinter. I suppose it would be the same for gliders.

Ok so I am cooking their drumsticks for tonight, yes I am going to try this once and then we'll see. I want to do this during supervised playtime and take some pictures, I want to see if we are going to have a "Flintstone moment" of one my gliders dragging the drumstick ......

Can't wait to hear the outcome. I still laugh over the reactions chattrbabe got from hers. I think that one could be called "utter contempt". I gave mine another drumstick and got the same reaction so will give mine drumsticks once or twice a month and let Bandit have his hollow bone to play with longer. Curious now to see if he can actually get it in the pouch. Maybe I should start calling him Fred.

For some reason when the one gal said they took their piece of wing to the corner and ate and chirped, I picture this little glider in the corner of the cage hunched over a chicken wing, chowing down and chirping up a storm.

Can't wait to hear updates on the "chicken bone saga" especially if the stories are anything like Chattrbabe's experience! I'm still rolling on the floor!

The marrow should be really good for them nutrition-wise. The only problem I would see with giving them rotisserie or other meats that have been flavored before cooked would be that sometimes when they are cooked they inject the flavoring inside of the meat so that the whole thing taste good inside and out. My uncle used to be a chef and did this all the time to his meats. He still does. But if you are making it yourself and not doing that I wouldn't see a reason not to give just it to them. You can wash it before to be double safe. And of course watch for any signs your glider has splintered it. If they have and you can't find the splinters then they need to see a vet asap. I also agree with Alden. My gliders know what they need. I offer a variety of foods to them (ones that go with their HPW diet). Sometimes they will eat more of one thing than the others. Also, when my females have joeys ip or are nursing they seem to crave extra protein. It's just like a pregnant woman. They will usually crave something their body is lacking (not talking about ice cream and junk foods!).

When I give mine turkey necks, I cut the neck apart, so that each bone segment is a separate piece.
I've watched two gliders in a tug-of-war over one piece. Neither gave an inch. No noise - no snarling, growling or crabbing. Just and eye-to-eye, mouth-to-mouth stare down to see who would back down first. Two bundles of fuzz locked in a glare-contest! Of course, all the while, there's another piece in the bowl!
Of course, the male backed down first. The females always win. Our poor glider males are SO hen-pecked! When I feed good treats, I can hear the chorus of "Yes, Dear."

That is just too funny. I'm going to buy and boil up a turkey neck for them, make some good stock and a treat for my gliders. My female is nursing 2 week OOP babies and the bigger they get, the more she eats. She, by the way, has very big, healthy babies. I often wonder how often rejection is related to Mama just not getting enough to eat. Other than losing her big pouch belly, Splenda has not lost any weight. These were her first joeys and doing great. People who try this, please post results. This is getting very interesting. Today Jesse, my grandbaby, was over but she only left my gliders a green tennis ball. However, now when her parents have drumsticks, the bones are saved for their sugar gliders and they got the hollow, polished bone back too. It was funny as their 11 year old budding artist saves them to make jewelery from. I suspect I may be getting a chicken bone necklace for Christmas!

Sam's club here does not inject the chickens they just put some seasoning on the outside. The part of the chicken in this case the gliders would get will be scraps and down to the bone. All should be fine On the other hand if the chicken is injected then I agree I would not use that.

That's what mine looked like except hollow on both ends. The ends that are chewed off aren't hard bone, it's cartiledge. Those pictures are totally hilarious! They need to go in the photo of the week contest. The drumstick Jesse put in my cage was one she'd already eaten most of the meat from so overnight they'd chewed both ends off and got all the marrow. It just looked like a white tube.

While it would be an excellent source of calcium, I wonder if the fattiness of the marrow, would make it a rare treat only?

Interesting, I hope someone comes along with an answer. I would also worry about the splinters. I know for humans it helps maintain a healthy cholesterol level, act as an Anti-inflammatory and a strong immune system. Beef bone marrow has high cholesterol, I wonder if the marrow of a chicken bone is too fatty? While it would be an excellent source of calcium, I wonder if the fattiness of the marrow, would make it a rare treat only? Yes, that will be very beneficial to know.

My daughter was going to the store, so I asked her to pick up a package of chicken legs. She had my grandson grab it. He got wings. So, I cut the little drumettes off and have them boiling. Now, is this safe for them or am I having chicken for dinner tonight?
