I have seen a few toys out there with spools on them. I have a few old wooden spools I got from my grandma's house about 6 years ago. They are in good shape, no splinters. Are these safe to use as is, should they be coated with polyurethane, or should I just keep them in the mason jar as a sentimental, antiquey thing? Just trying to come up with toy ideas with things I have lying around the house. Melanie

Ya - hang onto them! You can buy wooden spool type toy parts at a craft store.
