I was using fleece as the under pad but I find even washing 2 or 3 times it still smells. Now I am using it as a cage cover to protect my walls and I am having the same problem. I also had fleece ropes a hammock and other accessories but cannot get the smell out of them. I use tide free laundry detergent. As of now I have thrown out all the stuff I have made for them because it all smells bad and I cannot get the smell out other than there pouches because they dont go to the bathroom in them. Mel

I am allergic to Tide. Being "free" - means no dyes or scents. I used All Free & clear and it did an okay job on my glider stuff. I now use Great Value Sring time (pink lid) detergent for their laundry. Smells great and they love it too! I also wash glider stuff in hot!

I switched to Brisky's eucalyptus bedding for my trays so I can just dump the whole thing every once in a while. I have to wash my cage covers and then let them sit outside for a day or two.

Thanks. I always wash the cage with super hot water and the smell comes right off but when I do the laundry I use cold water I was worried about everything shrinking.

oh yeah, its by the detergent, and its in a cardboard box... it is super cheap and is for things like grease and grime, has no smell really, but CUTS the smell!

I use baking soda too and the smell is gone. Previously I was noticing a smell too. If you don't have that, vinegar in the washer will work too. I wash in cold water and lingering odor is not a problem.
