He looks good Cora. I hope the antibiotics do the trick.

I have one or two ecollars like that. They gave them to me at the vet college. The velcro can be moved to tighten the collar or to loosen it.

I hope Spencer finally gets to live without an ecollar.

I had hoped so too Feather, unfortunately with the type of mutilator Spencer is I could never trust him alone without the ecollar. Its just not worth the risk. He is such a sweet boy!

Spencer doing some better on the Antibiotics, meaning he is not having "night terrors"......................trying to get to himself at night in the past week and a half. However when I take the collar off he might be ok for any where from 5 min to several hours but will eventually try to get his cloaca. The bedroom hubby and I share is just not consistently warm enough so since he has been doing better I moved him to the living room last night and he ate every drop on his plate! I think he enjoys being around other gliders. I just cant let him go back in the glider room where my breeding pairs are in case he starts the night thing again. I am looking for a baby monitor at garage sales and online so I can hear him if he starts again after the antibiotics are finished.

So I weighed Spencer tonight..............140 grams...........YAY, knew he was getting fluffy again!!! He is on the SMZ TMP again, but it helps a lot. I have been able to leave the collar off much of the time except when I sleep or he is not on me. So we are doing better right now. Thank you to all who still pray and or follow Spencers journey.

A member on another board asked for some pics ...............

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this is not pic overload.....LOL Spencer is a white faced cinnamon so its hard to get good pics of his cloacal problem but I got one or 2. He does wet himself but I think that is more of marking rather than another symptom so thats why he is wet on his bottom, he does it when he wakes up, course he drenches me too smile

Spencer is still having issues with wanting to tear up the inside (not outside) of his cloaca. He is very talented to be able to do that and has it bleeding in seconds. So collar off time is only a little while with me eyes on him constantly, cause he will sneak a little nip here and there. Could this be some sort of itch rather than pain???? If so how do we fix it? The following pics were taken last night.
Spencer turns his collar this way when he wants it off
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/angelfish_37/IMG_5296.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/angelfish_37/IMG_5297.jpg

Spencers Cloaca, please note the dark colored are is scare tissue, his skin tone is pink and thin in appearance because he is WFC so scars look like that on him, even his neuter scar (pom off). The slit is what he urinates and defecates from. Course I think that is different than all other gliders because of the surgeries and mutilations.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/angelfish_37/IMG_5305.jpg

I would give anything to be able to fix my boy!

hug2 Have you tried Cortizone 10? Mary had me use it on Ace when he was itching. It really helped but it's only a temp fix. If it is an itch the question is what's causing it? Have you tossed the itching thought at your vet? Might lead them to think outside of the box dunno

Just a thought but have you tried Vit E and/or Emu oil, inside and out? When my little ones are healing from surgery, I rub a bit of both oils on the affected part, then put a drop of both oils on my finger and let them lick it off. For Spenny's inside itch or pain, maybe these could reach it and help.

What about asking zoo vets if they've had this problem with any animals? Or asking any and every type of vet, for their opinions/suggestions. There have to be specialists out there somewhere, be it at a teaching hospital or some big zoo, who have some ideas of how to treat this.

Still sending tons of prayers for both of you!

Spencer is doing quite well right now. Aunt Denise made him an e-jacket that fits him perfectly, allowing him to eat with his hands, Run in his therapeutic wheel (thanks to the kindness of Aunt Lori and whatever little elves helped), Living in an extra large pop up kennel (standing upright, not on its side ) full of toys and a light blue and purple butterfly cage set! He can also sleep comfortably in my bra. Are you understanding what i am saying??? He is living like a normal glider I am sorry Denise and Bourbon(Lori) I tear up every time i think of the kindness shown towards him. You see Denise (minkasmom) made him an e-jacket that he cannot get out of that made his quality of life 100 percent better!!! He is happy, he was even sleeping with 3 bracelets around his midsection this morning!!!! OMGoodness he was able to carry them to his regular pouch and fit through them!! he licks me and is so happy now. He cannot glide but he can jump pretty far from one person to another! Will he still mutilate if given the chance? you bet. Now I am praying for a medical miracle. Maybe x-laser is the answer. Bourbon has a pamphlet on it, I should have scanned it. There is a vet in Houston having great success with hip displasia in dogs and several other ailments in other animals and is excited at the possibility of helping the chronic mutilators with this new laser therapy.
We love you all!!!!

So great to hear that he has a nice home and a new e-jacket. I am sure that is much more comfortable than the e-collar. I hope they can find out why he SM's someday! hug2

I'm tearing up with joy to hear that the Spencer-man is STILL doing as well now as he did a week ago in his new jacket! dance dance It HAS to be more comfortable for him to wear, and for you to have him tucked down in your bra! mlove

Aunt Denise is sending some envelopes to Texas this morning...one is heading to you, so Spenny can have a couple "clean" vests to change into (and I made the minor changes to these that we discussed earlier); one is heading to MaryH, and the third one is going to Val (I understand she has a young man heading HER way that could really benefit from this e-jacket as well).

Give Spencer a handful of hugs and THANK YOU's from me...it's because of him and other gliders like him that sent me on this new mission. If we can't find out what's causing the SMing trouble, at least we can improve the quality of his life in other ways! hug2 hug2

I miss you both & love you to PIECES!!!!!

How thoughtful of you Denise hug2 Cora, I hope we will see pics of Spencer in these new vests. I am so happy to hear that Spencer is so comfy in the e-jacket, it's wonderful!
