How do you know if the babies are Lions? WHat are the characteristics? I am breeding Lions and I just don't know how I will know if they are Lions or greys? Especially with pouch staining that can distort their color. Is it something you have to wait until they get older to be for sure?

The person you need to direct your questions to is LaurensBabies.....she's very knowledgeable about this subject & you could probably send her a picture or 2 if you have some new joeys & need a definite reading on that. thumb

It is hard to tell on some newly oop joeys. Some may look stained giving them the lion look so some other things to look for until the staining goes away is the markings. Lions have ver thing face markings and back stripe. Some of my lions almost have no eye rings. They will have a golden look to them. Some lions are dark golden and some are very very light. Persephone and hades on my site are lions and there some is bill. Bill is a nice lion. He has a very golden face.

I try to wait till at least they are 2 weeks oop before i say lion. There are joeys i have had that i put poss lion as they have all the markings and some golden to them but are not dark enough to be considered a lion.

This also confuses me. I have seen some pictures of lion joeys and I can't really tell the difference. I have heard that photos don't really do them justice sometimes. I am sure that there will be lots of people who can help you out once you get joeys.

Also, lion joeys as they start getting older may loose their lion coloring only to gain it back once they reach maturity. But a lion joey will be a lion from the beginning. If they are grey until reaching maturity, they are grey with some staining.

Also, some joeys have "lion coloring" but that coloring isn't strong enough to be considered lions. (pretty confusing huh?)

I have Joy and Charity (lion sisters) from Lauren and they are in a trio with Viking (mosaic). Trying to figure out their joeys is interesting at the very least. Their last set of babies, I had one with "lion coloring" but not a lion. This time I have a little lion boy.

If you look at this pic, Kaluah is a lion joey. His markings are very faint around his eyes, and he is a pretty golden coloring.

Yes, Holly is Joy and Charity's sister. They are from Abby and Zack.

And yes, I am totally confused about them too and have to have Lauren tell me if my joeys are lion or not. I got Joy and Charity because of their awesome personalities. Their color is just a bonus to me.

My Holly is my sweetest glider. Tell me is Joy and Charity's babies just as sweet? Or is it to early to tell? I am excited to breed Holly but with her being so sweet I want a male that is equally as sweet.

Back to characteristics of Lions I thought the had a different shaped head or something??? My two have giant heads and very round. Their ears on more on their sides of their heads. But I don't know if this is actually a characteristic of a Lion or not?!?!?!

INDIVIDUALLY they are VERY sweet but with all three together they seem to compete for who has the biggest mouth. They are VERY vocal, when all together. Sweet but vocal. Lauren says I'm a lier. That there is no way her "Diamond" (what she calls Saraya) could ever be crabby.
