Hi, I'm new in here. I'm from Lexington. Didn't know about Petsmart. My gliders go to the Sunset Animal Hospital in West Columbia.
I'd like the lowdown on 'em...do they have actual experience with gliders? Are they friendly? Knowlegeable? There's an exotic vet here in my city but they've never seen a glider. I've taken iguanas to Sunset but it's been years ago.

SUNSET ANIMAL HOSPITAL they are great. They take care of my Gliders Sutton and Suzie. They have seen other Gliders and I know this because they freaked out and were all prepared to get bitten when they found out I was there to have a wellness check done on my Sutton and Suzie. lol They always tell me now that I have the sweatiest most friendliest Gliders they have ever seen there. I try to tell them that there are other people friendly Suggies out here but they swear they have not seen any as sweet and nice as Sutton and Suzie are. I have now included Sunset Animal Hospital in my "Take the Gliders out to Socialize with stringers route". Once or Twice a month I take them out to "socialize" We visit the Columbia Animal Shelter, Forest Acres Police Department, Lugoff Fire Department, Sunset Animal Hospital and a couple of pet stores.
A SC Get Together in the Columbia Area would be great. I say Columbia because it's in the middle of the State so folks North and South can all meet in the middle.

Typically I'm a reptile keeper and breeder, but have slowed down in the reptile department as of late and have taken a large interest in sugar gliders. Been reading up for weeks on them, havn't bothered posting here yet.
I've got the diet and everything worked out. Still glider proofing my house. Got the tent and a few other toys and whatnot together already, still arguing paying the price for a reptarium or just building my own (which I have done for reptiles 50 times over). 4 feet tall, 2.5 feet long, 1.5 feet deep. Wooden frame and mesh outside with the entire front being an opening door with 2-3 latches down the front. That is the plan for the cage unless I find out mesh prices are sky high(which I doubt).
But regardless, within the next 3-4 weeks I was planning on buying one, and was wondering if any of you know a SC reputable breeder I could speak to? I'm willing to pay the full cost, not looking for a deal, just looking for a decently bread animal, not some pet store abuse. Your help is much appreciated, thanks! Jacob Kable~

Hello. Is this place still active?? I am in upstate SC, in the Greenville County area. Don't see too many gliders in this area, but I have 2 wonderful rescues, Sugar & Nibbles, and I'd love to get together to make toys and stuff!!
Hi Sari. I'm in Greenville and Ive currently got NINETEEN gliders! There are several people in the area with gliders. Once I get settled in (I'm in the process of moving to Greer) I'll schedule a little get together and we can make some glider goodies, etc.

Hi Laurie! This is SOOOO COOL!! You won't be that far from me. I'm in the mountains a little bit. The blue ridge area, near Lake Robinson. Know the area?? I can't wait, hurry up and move!
Hello South Carolina! You really have to meet Laurie "Suggiemom"... What a great "Mommy"! She runs a wild life rescue, and I got to snuggle and feed a baby raccoon! Also, she currently has two little rascal Joeys. HOW ADORABLE! We got to play together (me & the joeys!). I brought Sugar & Nibbles with me, and Sugar gave Laurie lots of love. If she gets the seal of approval from Sugar, then she gets it from me too! Laurie has wonderful Suggies, she is good at clipping nails, and has a heart of gold!
Oh, and I can't forget Tara "Saturngirl" from Columbia. She drove all the way here with the crazy gas prices just to snuggle with more suggies and the baby raccoon! How cool is that? It was great to meet you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The point of this SC posting? There ARE great people here in SC that have suggies, and I want to meet MORE!! Let's make some toys, and snuggle some fuzzies!!
So, Laurie, when are we making cage sets???? I'll bring my sewing machine!
Mary, you just don't know what it is like... Can you see the face on me when she was tickling me? I think that one says it all! (edited... Mary, sorry, I thought this was the raccoon posting, LOL... you know the one I mean...)
Laurie, I'm avaialable! I have to go to the dentist tomorrow, but there always the next day... and the next...
Hi Sari It was so nice meeting you on Saturday. As soon as I get a sewing machine I'll be so there making cage sets with ya'll.
The 2 little joeys Sweet and Sour came from Columbia. I got to have them in my house overnight and took them up to Laurie. I love little joeys....they are so cute!

Tara, it was nice to meet you too! Yes, the Joey's were SOOOO cute! I got to play with them for a while. I think they are expecting it now, so Laurie's got her hands full! You know, I am willing to share my machine with you, if you'd like to join us...
Hey SC community!! first lets start with my sad story
Three weeks ago I purchased a supposed "bonded pair" ... Two nights ago my male died... I have never been more devastated! I don't know what could have happened! I have taken his body to a vet and they think that it could have been malnutrition but most likely it was a preexisting condition. Now my little girl will not be a mommy and I have lost someone so precious to me! I would have gladly taken in a sick glider just to make its last days a bit better but it isn't fair to allow me to get attached and have him jerked away from me. i WISH i knew what happened, I followed everything they said to do, but the vet thinks they weren't fed enough. I am so upset because I followed the eating regiment exactly from what the supposed expert handler gave me....... I wish I has followed my gut and changed the diet but he said it wasn't safe....not fair. For now I must worry about her. I have gotten her checked out and she seems to be in great health. How can someone do this? I'm going to miss him so much. So for now I am just trying to give her all the attention in the world and help her get over losing her buddy. I am currently searching for another addition to our family, I am allergic to dogs and cats so suggies are so perfect for me. I will probably wait a little while before getting another one, I dont know how I can replace him. I hope she will be ok ...any advice for a grieving suggie is greatly appriciated , oh not to mention a grieving owner!!! awwwwwww i miss him.
Anyways I have had a hard time getting over his death but again like I said I have now become a slave to my little darling muffin. I am looking for her a friend so if anyone has any suggestions please let me knwo ! I would love to get intouch with some people in the area and maybe we can do something about the mistreatment of these animals in this state and then talk about how much we love them I am from clemson too by the way!!!
---Alexandria Now only mommy to one But missing bear more than anything!

Welcome Littlebear! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! Who did you get your suggies from?? And, did you change Muffin's diet yet? I use BML. If you would like some help, I'd be happy to assist! checking out all you can on this site will help the most. Also, Laurie is GREAT (as you already know). I am in the Greenville SC area, and would love to meet you one day. Where are you?
Hey Sari, Yeah I am in Clemson, I have changed her diet to a leadbeater diet....that was the suggestion the vet made should i change it again? Greenville isn't far at all i would love to meet up with you sometime! Send me a PM and maybe we can meet up!

Hi, I live 2.5 miles from Sari Sariyappa and about 18 miles from Laurie Suggiemom. I have a rescue glider I got from Laurie "Raku" and he's doing great. Sari and I just got our twin girls my "Glaze" & Sari's Destiny from Virginia sugargliderlady and we've been having glider play dates for the girls. They are so glad to see each other that they hug & kiss every time they meet again. Richard and I moved here from the Pittsburgh, PA area and love the weather and the people. GO STEELERS!

Hi Jana! Welcome to GC and welcome to South Carolina! Jana also got the chance to meet a bunch of people at this year's SSS in SC, so start planning for next year peeps!
Thought I would say hi. My boyfriend purchased our first Suggie this past Sunday. His name is Quantum, and he's precious. He's slowly warming up to us, but still crabs a good bit. This is a great forum. I'm learning a lot, and I'm glad there are people out there I can talk to if I need to.

My hubby was looking at Greenville. Wouldn't be able to do it until summer next year. So it's still up in the air. But I won't go anywhere that suggies are illegal so I wanted to check that out first. Thanks for answering my questions so quickly. I'll post again if we do decide to move out your way.
