I purchased some plastic ivy the other day at hobby lobby. It looks like a little jungle in their cage now and they seem to like it. We took them out of their pouch tonight and there were about 4 ivy leaves in there. It looked really cute with them behind it.

Is this something that they usually do? It won't hurt for it to be in their pouch will it? I didn't know if they would try eating it or not. I think they are just hiding behind it.

As long as the fake ivy is all plastic and no 'wires', no berries or bits that they could pull off and choke on, and the dye (color) doesnt run if it gets wet, etc... (sorry, you may have known that... I have to always try to mention safety when I can. ) if all thats good, then yes, it is ok for them to take 'leaves' to bed (just keep an eye on the leaves and check for chew/bite marks... Ive never had a problem with it personally). In the wild, they carry leaves and such in their tails to their tree hollows to 'nest' with.
Its perfectly normal... as long as everythings safe, and you check their leaves often, its a good thing! They seem to enjoy it and its something stimulating for them to do, and something to make us spend more money replacing vines.

Thanks, no berries or wires on them. I don't know about dye running on them. I'll take one out and see. I appreciate your mentioning the safety factors since I am new to this. I had read in another post about the wire but had not thought about the other.

Your gliders will probably over time strip off all the leaves. Mine do that and it was getting pretty expensive to replace the plants every couple of weeks. What I did was start collecting the leaves they stripped off and washing them. After they dry, I put them around the cage for them to find. They always carry them back to their pouch to "nest" with. It is so cute!!

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

That sounds like a good idea. I like the ivy I got because it is wrapped around a plastic chain which I thought would make it easier for them to climb on. So far they have stripped very few leaves.

Maybe I need to stock up with a few when they go on sell. I like the jungle look that it provides.

You are all so lucky!
I got my little one some plastic vine to climb on - it only took about 3 nights for him to strip the majority of the leaves off. He doesn't nest with them, he just leaves them on the bottom of the cage.

I call him my "little agent orange" - ya know, the defoliant.

I just keep a lookout for sales and clean up the next morning.
