I just bought myself a silent spinner. I have yet to put it in the cage. Has there been any problems with the design? It's 2 pieces and has an opening where they clip together the 2 parts. Has there been any injuries? I have the same question about the observation ball.

line it with something....the tread isn't going to keep your glider on it while running. lol. I just learned this last night. lol. I will be lining the one I have in a cage with Hardware or Landware cloth.

I don't know about the observation ball.

I got one with my sugs and they have more fun playing on it all dismantled and reconfigured (I took it apart and turned it into a hanging toy) than they did with it whole. For that, I'm grateful. That thing is a BEAST! Mine was sooo loud and clanky that I'm glad they refused to run it in while at my house. I was still getting used to bells jingling and gliders jumping on the cage walls. I think I would have lost it if I had to listen to that beast too. frown

If you have the extra money, I definitly reccomend you look into purchasing a Stealth Wheel. It's definitly worth the money and I wouldn't trade my Stealth for the world. Here's the link to them...

Thus far, I have not heard any complaints about the silent spinner. I'm not sure about the observation ball. Is this a hamster ball? If so, these are not recommended for gliders because they can get their nails caught.

Cora, what happened to get a tail injury? I just would like to know so I can figure out if I should chuck the SS, I don't want my baby getting hurt.

Observation ball is a hamster ball from what I understand, and those are a no no as nails and fingers can get stuck in the little holes. frown

The Silent Spinner was fine when I had it. dunno

May I ask what the silent spinner is... Did you buy it at a Pet Store? I've never heard of this one.

Thank You. smile

Thank you for your replies. I was refering to the hamster ball as the observation ball.
The silent spinner has the same shape and sized holes running down the centre seam.

They can be purchased in the pet store Erica. I've seen them a few different locations. They come in a few size which are different colours. I believe the colours are coded to the size.

While I personally haven't had any injuries from using a Silent Spinner, I agree with Kiiru that it's INCREDIBLY NOISY....and the snap-together parts with the seam right in the middle of the "running track" inspired me to find a NEW use for mine: a mealie-go-round! grin I have a wire shelf in one cage, and the "knob" on the back is on the underside for securing the wheel in place...throw in a couple mealies & watch the fun!

Nick has a very long tail and got it caught in the back somehow cause he was trying to ride the outer edge of the wheel. silly glider. side mounted stealths are probably your best bet smile

I to have a place that I could put this sitting up without the attatched piece. Mealie - go - round...lol that's funny. I'll have to watch out for the whole tail thing though. What happened with Nick's tail when it got caught? I"m sorry for asking. Did he loose his tail? :-(

I am using one of the Saucer wheels and I love it. It is quiet except for their little nails on the plastic and has been very safe so far. Here is the link. Flying Saucer

Cora, did you have your SS on the stand or attached to the cage bars via the hub on the back at the time of the tail injury? I always used it attached to the cage bars. This is the first wheel I bought when I got my gliders, but I switched to the Stealth cause, well lets face it... Donna was too WIDE to run on it. LOL I did keep it for the temporary cage I am going to keep Abby in till she is introduced to my girls.

It worked fine for tiny lil Bella, and it may be a good temporary wheel for Eilonwy till you can intro her to your trio Tiffany. But if you feel it isn't safe after eharing what Cora has to say, then of course don't use it.

Kayla, I looked at the saucers, but they take up so much floor space as they lay almost flat.

I personally use the Silent Spinner. Mine is nice and quiet though. Fuzzy and Hammy like it better than the Wodent, and the Stealth. Sarge and stewie got the stealth.

I haven't had any injuries. It's really easy to clean, too.
At first, Fuzzy and Hammy didn't really understand it's concept, being that Fuzzy was so used to the wodent, and Hammy was just learning how to play on the wheel. LoL. They figured it out really quick though. ^^

I think any wheel can cause injuries. There's always going to be a flaw somewhere. It's up to you with what you go with though. thumb

That IS correct accidents can happen with any wheel/toy/pouch! Thats why they call them "accidents".
I have never heard of the saucer til now..........is it wider than the spinner?? It looks awfully narrow to me. But things always look dif. on the net than they do in person!!

The silent spinner was my first wheel for Duckie too... I loved it because all I really heard was his little hands and nails as he ran...

BUT... I dont know how this happened but the wheel came apart during the night. I didnt hear it fall because there was fleece on the bottom of the cage for him to walk on and I thank god that he did not get hurt from it... It didnt matter how tight I turned the srew on the inside it continued to unscrew itself or Duckie did it but I dont see that happening and I never took the wheel apart for cleaning. I simply soaked it in hot hot water for a while and wiped it down real good...

I then got a wodent wheel because I thought Duckie was getting flung out of the SS while he was running so i figured the wodent wheel would be good... It is noisy as all get out... I cant stand it.... I am too scared to buy any other wheel because of not liking it and wasting the money...

I've had several silent spinner wheels and the same thing keeps happening! I don't use the stands, but attatch them to the wall of the cage and they eventually break off. They are inexpensive but I worry that a glider could get hurt when they break.

If you ever worry or if there is any doubt about something your gliders use or play with then just remove it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I have a Stealth wheel and it is AWESOME...I think the greatest thing about is that it's made of mesh so the gliders can run extra fast then hold on and spin around with it!! Bunny LOVES to make herself dizzy on that thing...i could have mounted it the cage but i just zipt tied the tand to the side and it's fine...The Silent Spinner looks like it's be okay but i don't think anything tops the stealth wheel..

I had the cheap wire hamster wheel before I learned about the bars in the middle and injury. Then I bought the silent spinner, It worked great, she loved it and I now have it in my quarantine cage for spice when she comes in Feb. I bought the wodent wheel before I bought the big cage, and then read about tail injuries, and so finally I bought the stealth....so to keep from spending a lot of money...go with what most recommend. I do have a question however, I have the stealth side mounted and last night when I went to check on Ginger for some reason around 3 a.m., she was between the wheel and the cage wall. I was a bit worried about this when I put it in, but she got out....those of you that have a stealth, do you gliders every get stuck between the wheel and cage? I have only had it about 4 days, so I wasn't sure. I still use the wodent wheel for tent time, as it is supervised and she loves it as well....

Mine is zip-tied to the side of the cage and they sometimes crawl between there but they always get out fine...

WOW, I didn't realize how much smaller the silent spinner is compared to the stealth wheel! Both my babies love running in it but they'll only run fast enough so that they can hold on and spin...then they hold on for the ride! It's so awesome to watch!!
