So I have had Kirby and DeeDee for 2 1/2 months now. Kirby bonded to me quite quickly, while Dee is still taking her sweet time...

Kirby has been super social. Loves tent time. Runs to see me whenever I come near the cage, will sleep in my hand on occasion, and is near impossible to get back into the cage at night.

Tonight we were doing tent time as normal, Kirby and Ollie running around like nuts, and all of a sudden Kirby stopped and just sat on my back. He stayed like that for 20 minutes or so while Ollie still ran around. When I touched him he was shaking. So I grabbed him and he curled up in my hand. Once he calmed down I tucked him in my shirt to wrangle Ollie and DeeDee and climb out of the tent. When we got back to the cage Kirby jumped out of my shirt and ran away from me as fast as he could. He parked himself on the back of the cage and refused to move. I left the room to get ready for bed and when I came back he was still there. When I tried to reach for him he just ran away...normally he comes when I call him!

He basically is acting like the first night I spent with him. He is petrified of me all of a sudden, for seemingly no reason? Once I finally got him back into the cage he ran and hid behind the wheel.

What happened? It was like someone flipped a switch in him.

I'm not sure if this is related, but over the weekend I came into the room in thr middle of the day and Kirby was out of the pouch on a branch shaking. I scooped him up, calmed him down in my hands, where he curled up and eventually was put down my shirt. I had thought that maybe he had gotten into a fight and someone kicked him out, but I haven't noticed any fighting...

Does anyone have any insight?

Is there anything new in the room?

Did you change laundry detergent, body wash, shampoo?

Something may have scared him, give him a couple days to calm down.

Please keep us posted on him.

When you are doing tent time, are you putting a sheet or blanket or something on the floor of the tent to muffle the sound the bare floor makes. I know that sound does scare some gliders. Just guessing even though that doesn't account for the cage behavior unless something during the night sounded similar dunno

When we used to go camping, I didn't even like that sound the tent floor made shakehead

Nothing new has changed. I'm still using all of the same products and nothing has been added to the room. The tent even had the same stuff in it as the night before as I didn't have time to re-arrange things. And I do have a fleece blanket down on the ground. What was really weird to me was that he was totally fine for about a half hour and then just stopped for no reason.

The cage is in my bedroom, which faces the street. It is possible that on Saturday a garbage truck scared him or some other loud noise happened. But the tent is in another room that is pretty quiet...and if there was a loud noise I would've noticed!

At a certain point last night I woke up to hissing. I went over to check out the cage and Kirby was pretty aggressively grooming Ollie. He was on top of him, holding onto his ears pretty tightly and had his nose buried in his ear. I scooped Ollie out to check he was OK, which he was, and he actually climbed back to snuggle with Kirby in the hammock. I watched for a bit and Kirby laid off, so I went back to sleep.

This morning when I woke up, when I went to give them their morning mealies Ollie tried to poke his head up out of the pouch, but Kirby was pulling on him, aggressively cleaning Ollie's face/mouth, and it was actually bleeding. Kirby re-opened the wound on Ollie's face (which had been healing), and it was actually much bigger.

I immediately took Ollie out and cleaned him up and gave him medicine. When I did that, Kirby ran out of the pouch and went to hide in the hammock...it was like he knew he did something wrong. The vet also gave me a topical solution to put on Ollie's wound to help keep it clean and help it heal. But now I need to separate Ollie from his buddies again until he's better. frown He was doing so well, too. Sigh.

Kirby what's your problem!?
