Hi im new here. blush

I screwed up massively. I got a cage in person and did not check the bar spacing till a brought it home and assembled it... shakehead
The bar spacing is 1" by 4".
I know, escape waiting to happen. :tant2:

I was wondering if a certain type of mesh (linked at the bottom) is safe to use?

(The link is a is a 1/2" inch (0.4" to be specific) plastic hardware cloth, but I don't have gliders yet and can't estimate if they are chewers.

Will be attached with a great number of zip ties.)

I've heard not to do metal, and vinyl-coated galvanized steel is debated, so I'm playing it safe with plastic hardware mesh.

My main concerns:
1: Could the gliders chew through it to escape?
2: Is the door openable by them

Please look at the link for the mesh and the image for the doors if you can.

Link for mesh below

You will need to put the mesh on the inside of the cage.

I am not sure how to modify the openings around the door.

Can you return the cage?

I can't return it, sadly.
Mesh goes on the inside, not the outside of the bars?

I thought about trying to sell it, but another cage would cost at the verry least $30 more than I bought the cage for, and im on a budget...

I just don't think someone esle would buy it for more than $90, witch is the price I bought it for...

Do you know where to get a cheap and large cage big enough for 3-4 gliders possibly?

I'd get another but modifying sounds less expensive. I don't fully know the pros vs cons of fixing the cage to those of selling it instead and getting a new cage.

Thanks for the help, I listed it on Facebook, and hopefully can use that money to buy a new cage.
But cage recommendations would be great!

Check out the Madagascar cage at Exotic Nutrition, we only recommend cages from there. No food or toys.

Hello ! wave

I agree with feather on plastic mesh to inside of cage. Be sure to buy many zip ties to attach it. Zip ties are your friend. They help with many things.

Good to know, thank you.
I think I'm just going to sell the cage, so do you have any recommendations for cheap cages 2ft deep, 3ft wide, 4ft tall or more?

I don't have this one, but like the horizontal cage bars. It's easier to climb for them.
If I did buy it, I would remove all but 2 shelves (and make sure they're secure), and take out all the ladders (they aren't safe). This one is a little bit smaller, but would work if they are young and boys neutered. Bar spacing .4".

This one is larger, and has vertical bars (most of my cages have them too).
I would also remove all but 2 short shelves, center tray and all ladders.

on any cage, especially if you're unsure, zip tie all cage doors you don't plan to use regularly.

Also be sure to find glider safe wheels. See links below:

https://www.myfreerunner.com/

There are many places that offer wheels that are not safe. These 2 are the best.

There is also 1-2 other safe glider wheel makers, but I can't think of their names. They all are about the same $$$.
