I don't know if this is okay to post. I know Ellen is working on something special to commemorate Cynthia's contribution to the glider community, but I want to be able to write down my thoughts while I'm still thinking about it, and thought maybe others might, too. I'm don't want too much time to go by, and want to be sure people know just how important Cynthia was to the health and longevity of our gliders today.
When I first came to Glider Central in 2000, there were only about 20 active posters. When I read a post by Cynthia -- and there were LOTS of them -- I felt cared about, and the advice was so good. What I learned later is that her observations -- along with a handful of other people -- pretty much accounted for most of the things people knew about gliders at that time, and that this board was really a place where EVERYONE was learning about gliders, not just new owners. Her skills at observation and desire to learn made her a leader in teaching others about gliders.
I only had a handful of personal interactions with her, mainly surrounding a railroad I helped organize to bring a glider to her in 2001. Even though she was ill, she was always cordial, gracious, and eager to share about her wealth of knowledge about gliders. She clearly loved her gliders. We put up the pictures, which you can still find under Cynthia in the gallery.
While the phrase "go for the good of the glider" has been used and misused over the years, it remains the mantra of many of us when our priorities get out of kilter -- when we want to prove arguments instead of learn, when we want our pride to prevail over truth. I know for me, that little phrase has made me re-evaluate my actions on many occasions, and for that alone, I'm grateful for Cynthia's contributions.
She was an active poster when I got my first gliders, and then her health caused her to come here more often. The board was literally not the same place without the little hearts in her signature, and I will miss her. Her knowledge and her heart made her unique in this community.
I'm sure that many others will be able to give you many more stories than I can, but I didn't want the chance to pass without giving my little glimpse of a very wonderful woman.
We're grateful and indebted to you, Cynthia. Thank you.

Ok, boy I have so much to say and I cant even find the words. A few days ago I got a call from Ellen while I was at work and she told me of the news about Cynthia. I literally couldnt speak for a few seconds and I had a flashback of all the times over the years when Cynthia and I would talk. I havent talked to her in probably 2 years or more. I really missed her and was wondering how she was. Now I know. Im very sad but Im glad she is at peace. I remember the last time we talked, she told me her hands were hurting her too much to type and that was it.
When Ellen called me I felt so disconnected from everything. I moved twice in the past 3 weeks. Im just getting settled here in the new house and I finally got internet access today. I have so much happening Im just trying to digest it all.

Hey Board. I happen to be the brother of Cynthia, and I want to thank all of you for the nice comments that have been posted. As many of you know, she has been quite ill for some time. Now, she may rest in peace! Thanks again.

Cynthia was more than wonderful, she was just fantastic. It seemed she had advice for everything. I must have talked to her about every subject possible over the years. Its been what, like 8 years now? I still have her name on my ICQ list.

Yes.. She will be missed a LOT.. I barely knew her but through the board I really thought that I knew her.. I met her through Carol, she was always telling me about this wonderful lady named Cynthia.
When I would talk to her I called her The Great Cynthia... she laughed and said she didn't know about the great part but joked that she was a pretty good cook!
My favorite expression that she always said was "you give me the jollies"... it never failed to make me laugh.
What a great lady.

She sounds like a wonderful person. I am fairly new to the boards still so I don't think I know what her GC screen name was. What was her screen name? My prayers of God's blessings go to her. Mikey

I am sorry to find that someone as wonderful as her has passed. I didn't know her and wish that I could have gleaned some of her experience from her. I am glad that she has left some of it here for me to help give a better life to my gliders. I am sorry for all who knew her and loved her. I pray that God will help ease your hearts and spirits. I had hoped by now her brother would have sent a picture of her.
I have to tell you that the new year was her favorite time of year.
I miss her so much. We talked for hours and shared so many stories about gliders.
She was as I called her "the mother of the earth". I miss her.
Cynthia, I know you are there with all of our gliders, and she knows each and ever one of them.
Since she celebrateded the Indian ritural's this is meant for her.
Stay "cool" my friend and I miss you very much. You have done in death what you did in life and that is to GIVE.
