OK i know most people use wood bedding. But I'm talking about what I can put under the cage, in the tray. The gliders would never touch it since, you know, there is the wire at the floor of their cage, then the tray is underneath that. So can I use kitty litter? Wood chips are so expensive and I don't wanna kill more trees.
I used kitty litter for a while. It really helped the smell and was easy to clean. But I stopped after about a week just in case. Any advice?

haha you would be surprised at how far the little buggers can reach. I designed a fleece liner to go over my tray so that they can't pull it up. I would not use kitty litter or wood chips either one. Plus the kitty litter puts off a dust that can be really bad for your gliders. Try wrapping a piece of fleece over the tray, with the stretch going the long way.... Fold about 4-6 inches over each edge and sew it so it fits the tray snugly. I turn it inside out with the extra stuff on the underneath side and it makes for a nice looking cover (that matches my cage sets lol)

Noooo kitty litter, you would be so surpised how easily gliders can reach with their little arms to the tray and pick things up, like stray mealworms for instance.. you don't want them to grab a handful of kitty litter and stuff it in their mouths. frown That's poisonous.

I use CareFresh to line my trays, it's so good for keeping the smell down and it's totally safe.

I don't use a liner, I have tried everything and Charlie has pulled it ALL up and made a mess. Instead I just shake out the tray everyday and wash it in the shower, it keeps the smell down and I can see whats coming out of my little suggies, just in case somethings wrong !

No kitty litter!! I use carefresh - it helps with the smell and a little goes a long way.

I have also heard that some people use paper towels and just replace them each day. I have never tried paper towels, my gliders are super attracted to them and they would be ripped up about two seconds after I lined it.

Try the carefresh (unscented) and see what ya think!

yea. kitty litter is bad for human lungs, let alone little glider lungs. You can try a number of things though.. read the post that says "must find bedding that works"

I have given up on the liner thing to. I have just found it easier to pull the tray out and wipe it off each morning.

ya know, if you put puppy pads down first, and then the bird cage liners (theyre more like paper) over them, they wont pull anything through because the top layer (bird liners) are stiff and they cant get a good hold on them. PLUS all you have to do is take the top liner out and shake it out, and then when you do your big cage cleaning, you can clean everything... It has been a BIG time saver for me.

I don't believe many, if any, use wood beddings--at least pine or cedar, as both are harmful.
I believe aspen is safe, but I can't stand the smell of wood beddings.

As far as cat litter, it can harm the respiratory tract (dust) and impact your glider if ingested.

Right now I use carefresh, but I'm in the process of getting a reptarium, so the new bedding search is on. I'm considering an incontinence pad underneath on the outside, and paper towel, changed daily to every other day, on the inside. Your most inexpensive would probably be fleece--you can cut several and wash them. Some sew two together for the extra absorptive layer. Newspaper is also good, providing you can confirm with the newspaper that the inks are pet friendly.

They can easily reach down through the bars and pull up whatever you put there. I use Total Comfort bedding (similiar to carefresh) and they don't bother with it.

I get mine from Petsmart... they keep it by the birds and small animals and it's what they use in their pet displays...

I use news paper in the tray and clean it out every other day. If you keep the cages clean it will not smell. Honestly I would not use cat litter because gliders CAN and will reach through to grab some. If they eat it your going to have some sick or blocked up gliders. Just my 2 cents. (BTW hadn't read any other post so if I said what some one else has already told you I'm sorry) Hope this helps.

I figured cat litter couldn't be good, but I had to ask ohwell
I'm gunna look up this carefresh, hmm. The fleece thing is a good idea too. You guys who use fleece, do you change it everyday?? I have been using news paper. I change it wednesdays and wipe the cage down a little, and saturdays I do my big cage clean which includes changing the newspaper again. But for some reason newspaper irratates me.

With the fleece, you can shake it out every day or two and turn it over each time you shake it out. Then, actually change it out once a week thumb
